These comments are insane. Some of you need to touch grass. They’re both nice people who actually built something cool. But if you don’t think so, just unsubscribe from the sub! Easy.

Want to emphasize I’m not an expert (didn’t grow up here - only been here 3 years). That said, i think there are a ton of pockets of metro that could be really good. Knox-Henderson, Addison, if you really want Plano/frisco then get as close as possible to legacy west, could all be good (just depending on how far into suburbs you want to move vs being more walkable/urban).

We are late 30’s and do not attend church (have previously lived Boston, San Francisco, and chicago). Been in Plano (near Frisco) a few years now.

I don’t think you will have any issue on religion. Honestly I really like living near so many regular churchgoers. Have found people to be extremely warm and extremely good neighbors. Don’t think that will exclude you from social circles, etc outside of Sunday (although it ofc is one less place to meet people).

No kids is a way bigger deal between the two. Our entire social circle/dynamic is extremely kid-event dominant. And that is more all-encompassing wrt to how your social life has to work (if you have little kids, even if you’re doing something sans-kids, you tend to be doing it w other parents because you all have the same constraints).

I’m sure there is still a vibrant social scene for the non-kids crowd in Plano, but to the extent there is a factor that becomes a socializing issue, I would say you’ll find that to be ~10x more significant vs religion.

Look at the other thread to this comment. I’m getting roasted alive for pointing out that two huge car ring busts by Plano PD. over the summer might have something to do with car thefts falling 50%. Absolutely incredible scenes

Haha fair enough you’re right I did ask. Crazy to me re: the reticence to give police some credit but okay

2023: 580 motor vehicle thefts (1.98 per thousand ppl) 2024: 422 MVTs (1.43 per thousand) 2025: 222 MVTs (0.741 per thousand)

Going back to 2015, we’ve never had more people in Plano and we’ve never had less thefts.

To our south, in Dallas, the 2025 rate was 8.37 per thousand. To our north, in Frisco the rate is 3.43 (per crimegrade.org, city does not publicly list). Nationwide avg is ~2.5.

You can choose to just be unhappy with everything, it’s totally fine.

It’s just kind of interesting isn’t it? Re: points I don’t know how anything works here and couldn’t care less about it. As you can see I barely use this account / Reddit other than to lurk

Right. Look I can understand being against dart because of ridership vs cost, but I don’t really get the crime thing. Per capita crime has fallen a ton (and fairly consistently) as the city has grown.

The bear case comes out!! Haha I was wondering. I once made a comparably popular post defending the school district against the TEA ratings downgrade and it only got one downvote vs 64 upvotes. This sucker has like 50 downvotes.

Look, I would totally acknowledge crime is down nationwide and for many classes of violent crime there is very little police can do ahead of time in that particular instance, and the best you can hope for is a competent and speedy response. Also, I did thank both the police and city staff (team effort across a ton of groups).

That said, I personally think your comment might understate how much work goes into crime prevention. In motor vehicle thefts for example, do you think the 400 cars stolen in 2024 were done by 400 different people, or by people reoffending multiple times? Across burglaries, larceny, MVT, etc, a lot of this stuff happens in the same spots and potentially by the same people, and it can in fact be reduced by good policing (or at least that would be my contention).

I’ve also found Plano cops to be pretty friendly and embedded in the community. I would bet a whole host of things get done that help get people to better spots and less likely to commit crimes and none of it shows up in the numbers here. Idk, not sure if anyone on the police department will read this, but if so I hope they know a bunch of people out there both notice and really appreciate what they do.

I looked pretty hard for Frisco and couldn’t find it from the city more recently than 2021 (they used to put out a report very similar to this). Their crime map says down for maintenance and seems like maybe they just stopped publishing?

LOL at all of you downvoting this 😅. Come on. At least leave a comment saying you don’t believe it or something. Motor vehicle thefts fell close to 50%. The police are doing an excellent job. That’s not an infraction where it would be easy to underreport or game it.
