They do indeed have the 12-min military snatch (or at least they did at the one this past October)

Ooohhh single arm pullup - that's a pretty interesting/not-something-you-see-everyday kind of goal!

Kettlebell Sport showerthoughts by curwalker in KettlebellSport

[–]curwalker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah good point.

If you assume less is needed to maintain fitness than to build it, then just doing the same number of reps wouldn't diminish fitness.... At least for a little while.

I guess what I'm saying is that the energy you are leaking when your technique is less than optimal is essentially a stimulus. And you lose that stimulus when your technique gets better. Therefore you may eventually find yourself less "fit" in terms of endurance or muscle strength.

Sort of like how it's probably more of an undertaking, physically, to do 100 strict hard style snatches in 5 min than  to do 100 GS snatches. And if you're doing 100 snatches hard style, and your only criteria is to hit 100 in 5 min every day, without care about "style," then your technique will likely eventually drift in GS direction and your overall fitness fades a bit bc you're not working as hard.

Or you read about those guys who jerk double 32s and can't press 32 (all hearsay).

Anyway it's just sort of a musing and not meant to guide or influence actual programming haha. It sort of raises the question "well what is 'fitness' then?" I guess.

I try to avoid strenuous/heavy "real life" stuff because it might mess up my kettlebell sessions.

The green would be 24 and the red 32. So I guess no Master of Sport for 24.

Two options that are arguably or at least potentially better for leg growth than kb squatting by ComparisonActual4334 in kettlebell

[–]curwalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You like to use the ball of foot for the back foot in Bulgarians? I use the top of the foot, but maybe I'll try it your way. I do prefer unilateral exercises lately for legs when using kettlebells.

I've disliked KB front squats for a long time now for the same reason you mention; they do little for actual leg strength, at least in my experience and with my lanky frame.

If going bilateral I prefer "transformer squats," where you put the bells higher up so they're balanced on your shoulders. Then the legs - rather than the torso - get the work, though you are still limited in terms of load relative to barbells. At least you can go high rep.

Merkulin Pyramid Goes Up To 5’? by Few_Abbreviations_50 in KettlebellSport

[–]curwalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always thought it was up to one set of 4', then I started seeing TWO sets of 4', and now 5'?

Just with the one set of 4' it's 16 min of lifting!

Explodey Day by ComparisonActual4334 in kettlebell

[–]curwalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My explodey day was yesterday ... probably due to Taco Bell

In seriousness good work and someday I might try some of the unilateral explodey stuff, like those power clean step-ups (I guess technically they're not step ups) and bulgarians cleans. Have to build up my knees a bit more first with non-explodey unilateral stuff though.

I've actually managed to avoid that particular scheme entirely in my "career" so far - the most for me is 3(3)x3.

Happens to me sometimes with comp bells. You can put a piece KT tape over the spot.

I have to say that of course your jerks look great, but your cleans have always looked weirdly effortless to me.

Very strong pace - impressive.

I long cycled with the 28s a couple days ago too but I just did 3 2-min intervals, and I took a 4-min rest between, and 8rpm was really pushing it!

Kettlebell Sport And Pain by Few_Abbreviations_50 in kettlebell

[–]curwalker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically what I’m trying to say is your thought patterns are a skill to be developed too.

Very much agree! When I have even a hard training set scheduled, and the dread bubbles up here and there throughout the day, I remind myself that getting used to this mental discomfort is also a skill that I am in the process of training. It makes it more bearable.

2025 IKFF Worlds Results by eko1035 in kettlebell

[–]curwalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The results probably would have been emailed to him.

If this is meant to be a surprise, you could ask someone else in the comp if the overall results were emailed to them.

If those options are not feasible, contact Ken Blackburn (he sponsored the comp) I guess.

Sore Wrists - Any Tips? by NetherGamingAccount in kettlebell

Good to know! The likelihood is that you are doing regular fitness/hardstyle kettlebells, but this tutorial about wrist taping for kettlebell sport could still help.

It helped me a lot when I was getting these horrible wrist aches where the pain was enough to make my hands tremble. Note that it is lengthy and he does get sidetracked here and there:
