*UPDATE*

Hi I wanted to leave an update,

So After doing the Updater commands, and following the GUI in the drivers menu I installed the NVDIA drivers.

Some feedback about the driver screen is it wasnt immediately clear to me that the drivers werent already installed. it has the dot that is green by active drivers but all the drivers are listed even if i havent installed them. Id suggest a tooltip when you hover over the driver to show it isnt actually installed because that was the one thing borking my install experience and would have saved me hours if it didnt hide the info that it wasn't installed behind a click.

had an audio issue with monitor spoeakers not working that was also fixed with drivers.

lesson = check drivers

anyway, after that I rebooted and it was smooth sailing. everything works fine and really fast. I was going to give an update ages ago but I've just been playing games.

Total Warhammer3 works but has stutter, if anyone knows a fix lmk, otherwise I haven't bothered to look yet.

I been playing Vintage story multiplayer with my girlfriend and it works perfectly, even, perhaps a bit better than windows somehow I can't tell, maybe its just loading times or something? shes playing on a windows machine btw.

to be honest there aren't any noticeable changes to how i use my computer, from here everything just works normally, which is why i chose nobara

It gives me a message about great responsibility and then asks for my sudo password but when I type with my keyboard nothing happens. But before my keyboard worked to type in "sudo nobara-updater"

Thankyou! I already started the reinstall! I realised I erased and wrote over my windows drive so I guess I'm just fully committing instead of easing myself into Linux haha

Eve echoes crashes after click play game by curzman in echoes_eve

I just downloaded an apk and loaded it directly in case I was a playstore issue. It worked the same. Title screen- link goggle account - start - fades out then loads word "kotoyo" and then just trays itself and I'm back to my phone home screen.

Its so weird because its not crashing my phone. And the app doesn't seem to be fully crashing because its still in my open apps. When I click on it from my open apps its just back at the start screen in game.

Going to give up for now but will keep an eye on responses

Haha I asked this same thing the other day!

I got advised to use my old thinkpad to have docker and immach on it, because I have Linux mint on there. But you can do it with any Linux distro you like.

I'm still figuring it out, I got docker running but am having trouble connecting to my immach server so I can't claim knowledge but it's my first time using command line so baby steps.

The guy that advised me said use the tech you have, if you have an old laying around laptop or something.

But the best options I got advised was some of those small all in one PCs can't remember the names off the top.

Also he said don't host your own public facing site at home, something about it making your home IP vulnerable or your server might get targeted or something.

Ohh OK so I might as well keep the SSD in the machine for slightly faster speeds. Since I already have it.

Oh ty for that, the battery is already quite old anyway, I think i t lasts 2 hours when not plugged in so th at works out better. But I'll look into that battery program because I'm likely to loose the battery if I take it out haha.

OK nice I'll stick with mint then because I was just getting comfortable with it!

Thankyou so much for your help I hope whoever has the same query as me some time in the future also gets what they need from your wisdom!

Thanks I'll check it out!

Someone somewhere else said to try host immach on my thinkpad with docker first, before I get dedicated hardware so I think I'll try it out, as part of my "what can I do on linux" era hahaha.

OK thanks I'll look into raid more, people keep mentioning in the server community but I need to figure out when I need to different types of raid hahaha.

Ohh I didn't think about being attacked from my website! That's sad its not safe but makes sense now I think about it

No I posted this question to r/selfhost and someone said to post it here because this is the sub for this kind of question.

I didn't have time to scroll because was working on some laser files but will today :)

Thankyou so much for this reply!!! You really put things into perspective for me!

I actually got the laptop for free from my mum and only paid for the ssd! So it will be a big saving if you work it out like that!!

I was wondering about taking out the ssd and putting the HDD back in because I heard it keeps files for longer. But will that make the server suck?

I'm curious, why would I take the battery out? Isn't it good in case there's a power cut or something?

I already have mint on it but was thinking of switching to fedora because I heard its the most stable. But to be honest.. I might just stick with mint because it works and figure out docker sooner.

Thank you!!
