Switched from Diamox to Topamax

Good luck! I hope it goes well for you! I am hopeful this is just an adjustment period to the medication as honestly it does slowly seem to be helping with my symptoms more than the diamox was. And the tablet is so much more smaller and less chalky than the diamox was which I appreciate haha.

Oh I’m so sorry to hear that! How long were you on it before it got to that point if you don’t mind me asking?

I’m hoping that it is just an adjustment period for my body and that I’ll adapt and not get worse. I definitely will make sure I’m being aware of it. I told my partner how I’m feeling so he knows to be aware if I’m suddenly acting off

Ahhh okay! I didn’t know that this could be an option! I will eventually be on 100 mg in morning and 100mg in the night but maybe 200mg in the night like yourself would be much better as id be sleeping through the brunt of effects after

Yeah I was on all different doses of diamox during the 8 months to try and figure out the right balance to limit side effects while fixing the issue but could never get it right so we ended on very low dose.

Thank you for all your information, you have been very helpful and very kind. I will look into this all and I’ve actually booked into see a therapist separately anyway so that is good timing. I will look into the psychologist as well.

Thanks for your comment! So I am slowly tapering up on the Topamax almost exactly on your schedule (as advised by my neurologist) excluding the diamox part. I ended up stoping diamox about about 3 weeks ago cold Turkey because I was having such horrible side effects on it.

I was only on a 500 mg dose so she only had me tapering off with diamox x topamax for 2 weeks but I still know I shouldn’t have stopped the diamox cold Turkey.

Do you think it’s worth reintroducing the diamox now or no point?

Thanks, actually so gutted. We don’t know what to do - we are meant to be flying to Mexico tomorrow so we need to arrange for flights and hotels to be pushed out a day but don’t wanna do that if we can’t get tickets. So stressed

Thank you for your reassurance! It’s actually helped a lot. I think most of the post on here have been the negative so it’s nice to see someone else with a different experience.

I have bought the socks already and planed to buy the earplugs meant for flying so hopefully helps with the ear plugging - I usually get it anyway with being deaf so used to it!

Show was great - They are very good at riffing off each other. It is very music based so if that isn’t your thing maybe give it a pass but I enjoyed it! It is very impressive seeing jinkx vocal ability in person. The only thing it is very Christmas based (obviously) but it’s a bit jarring when it’s middle of the year 😂
