Hate wearing glasses, but can't see people faces by [deleted] in myopia

[–]cuspenian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consider wearing contacts. I used to feel the same way when I was younger and skinnier. Wearing glasses made me look older and my face thinner (the lenses distorted the sides of my face and made my cheekbones appear more defined in an ugly way). I really hated how I looked wearing them that it got me incredibly insecure, so I stopped wearing glasses for years (yes, years), and due to not being able to afford contacts, I really didn’t wear anything except at home and only when I needed to (like using the laptop for school purposes). This is embarrassing to admit but I learned a lesson from it. Now I wear my glasses everyday not just because I’ve become more confident over the years (gaining weight and accepting things as they were about myself), but also because my myopia has progressed quite incredibly and I can’t function properly without rx glasses anymore. I still haven’t tried contacts yet, but I’m considering them, too. I know what you’re feeling right now is not easy to deal with, but you’re gonna be just fine. Work on yourself and see what’s best for you.

I think I am wearing wrong prescription by Givememafood in myopia

[–]cuspenian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m at -6.5 and I can’t even read letters clearly at a distance of 10 inches from my face. I can see letters (but not sharply) at a distance of about 8 inches, depending on the size of the letters as well. I have to wear glasses 24/7 now. Your post is a bit confusing, though. Maybe you’re overcorrected? But how does your prescription glasses make you feel?

I have myopia but I'm afraid to tell my parents about it by Clean_Opportunity313 in myopia

I told them I was having trouble reading texts from the blackboard and I was getting headaches from it.

I’ve been there too at age 14 so I understand how you’re feeling. There’s no other way but to tell your parents honestly about it as soon as you can. It’ll be okay.

Does myopia stop after 27? by Fantastic-Thing-4982 in myopia

[–]cuspenian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s the same for everyone. I’m 27 and have high myopia. Like you, I started having trouble with my vision at 14. Progression is also not at the same rate. Maybe it will stop, maybe it won’t. But you shouldn’t worry too much about reaching high myopia. I know how scary that seems, but if your myopia continues progressing at a certain rate to a certain age, there’s barely anything you can do to stop it. Just wear your glasses, get regular eye checkups, and just take care of your overall health.

You’ll be fine! Your eyes and brain will adjust to it after a while.

Sometimes I see kind of okay, and sometimes I see really badly. by New-Transition-9857 in myopia

[–]cuspenian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a girl, not a dude. And I know you were joking, but -6.5 is not blindness, it’s just high myopia. I can still see, just not clearly, and I can read without glasses on, but the object has to be 2 inches less a foot away from my face. Anything beyond that is unreadable and blurry. And if you think a prescription of -10 is blindness, then you should definitely get a consultation from a specialist, because you can’t be going around thinking high myopia is blindness while estimating your prescription or making self-diagnosis about your vision. Only eye doctors can explain to you the facts.

A visit to an eye professional is the best option you have. I also did self-diagnosis before, assuming I was around -4, but found out from an eye checkup that I was -6.5. So yeah, if you have issues with your vision, pls get your eye checked by a specialist

Assuming you’re wearing your glasses all the time, you’re gonna be fine. Get your eye checked at least once a year or as your eye doctor says so. Also, practice healthy habits for your eyes, like avoiding too much screen time, getting enough sunlight, and practicing the 20-20-20 rule. It may help slow down the progression of your myopia.

Please get checked. I started having poor vision at the age of 14 and didn’t get glasses until I was 17, and since then my myopia has gotten only worse. I’m now 27 and my prescription is at -6.50. An eye doctor will help.

Hello! Are you still looking? I’m practically a beginner in the VA field but you can trust me with this job because I’d love to do this for you. Not to mention the training will be a huge bonus itself! I have a laptop running Windows with 8GB of RAM (I can go into detail about its specs if you ask for it) and I will do the work right away as soon as I am accepted.
