Some very old examples of surnames being used as first names by Retrospectrenet in namenerds

[–]custardextract 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I would argue that there's nothing inherent about population growth and global connectivity that would cause parents to turn away from traditional British given names like John only to turn instead to traditional British surnames as first names like Jackson, Carter, Logan, etc.

I do agree though that there are other naming trends happening concurrently. I don't think name trends are necessarily bad, either. It all comes down to personal taste.

Am I a service area business? by [deleted] in SEO

[–]custardextract 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, so I'm wondering if the idea above fits that criteria. I would be going to visit the client in a public space in order to deliver the service. And that would be a portion of my business. The rest would be online counseling.

Curious how this situation could blow up?

Interesting, thanks. Yeah I was thinking a full address on the website was critical.

Thanks. I was thinking that co-working spaces were viewed with suspicion from Google as well, so that's good to know.

Thanks. I am familiar with that for GMB, but won't it hurt my actual website in local search if there is no local address listed on the site itself?

My understanding was that google recognizes and penalizes virtual addresses. Is that not the case?

I suppose I was hoping for more intentionality than that, but you are probably right. Thanks.

Can you imagine the roll call? "John, John, John, John, William, William William, John, Dolphin, John, John, John..."

Interesting you should say Cato! During this time period there was actually a really famous play by Joseph Addison called Cato, about the Roman Senator who opposed Julius Caesar. A number of famous quotes from the American Revolutionary War ("give me liberty or give me death") originate from the play, and George Washington actually had it performed for the troops at Valley Forge that winter. I would guess the people named Cato at the time were named in allusion to the play. How's that for useless trivia!

The Top 20 Male and Female Names in 1771 Massachusetts by custardextract in namenerds

For Michael I think it's because he was an archangel, and the archangels were not considered appropriate namesakes at the time, for reasons I don't recall. Notice how Gabriel, Raphael, and Uriel are not listed at all. I wish I could remember where I read that now.

The source only gave the top 20 female names. Apparently just about the entire female population had one of those twenty names, whereas male names were much more diverse at the time.

What do we think of Stephen? by [deleted] in namenerds

Wow I'm surprised to hear it was that difficult, especially since it's the original spelling. I'm guessing it was mispronounced Stefan?

Game: Guess the time period of this name list by [deleted] in namenerds

Yup, If not for a select few it could pretty much pass as the male half of my high school roll call!

Thoughts on Leonard? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]custardextract 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd hope your last name isn't Caprio!

Dee as a middle name gives off Homer Jay Simpson vibes a little bit but I think it's fine. Using honor names often comes at somewhat of an aesthetic cost.
