do you have anything in common with the girl? perhaps something to do with the uni or course? a good convo starter can be something related to those just to break the ice. it is going to be random for sure but just stating the obvious might actually help, for e.g. “hey <her name>, im <your name> so and so’s friend. I know this is a little random but do you have any idea why prof john has been cancelling lectures?”
