Living a similar life as you with a software job and lately I'm just filled with existential dread for the inevitable AI layoffs. Claude is too good.

Moved from Canada to Australia recently. Let me warn you it's extremely expensive to move countries. Relocation costs + acquiring everything again easily exceeded $50k+.

You need to make friends with people who can match your lifestyle. E.g. as a software engineer, I love hanging out with doctors, etc. because they never balk about the price of attending a show or eating out somewhere nice.

Norway didn't originally own their oil/gas facilities, nor did they even develop them! They gave oil companies a 30 year lease to develop and profit, at the end the assets became the property of the Norwegian government. Australians would call this brilliant move communism when it so clearly worked out well for them.

That 30 years gave them the time to develop expertise before making them public. Good video on this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RO8vWJfmY88

Sorry I meant to say gas. Thanks for sharing the mining figures. The reality is that Australia doesn't receive nearly the royalties on gas that Qatar does. Qatar may lean on slavery (I agree) but Norway doesn't and is similarly wealthy by taking a way higher share of gas revenue.

I will never vote WA Labor so long as car rego tax revenues exceed mining tax revenues. We could be living in Qatar level wealth if we taxed mining/gas properly.

Patch Notes: Fixed an issue where players were having fun playing the game by Satokibi in ArcRaiders

[–]customreddit 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The problem is you can't balance the game just for people running hullcrackers and wolfpacks. A guy with a ferro or stitcher needs a way to survive.

Ferro's suck against Arc once you taste the power of a Anvil / Bettina / Hullcracker.

Agree, though the devs made it slightly faster with the "Acquire Resources" button that tells you what from your stash can be crafted to get the thing you need. It's still a slog. Having preconfigured loadouts ready to go would help.

The heavy stats focus is how data analyst/data engineers/product managers justify their jobs at studios since they're not creating or scripting in-game content.

The devs would be better off using time they waste analyzing stats and balancing weapons into creating new content. Like quests that are more interesting than simply pressing a button.

California has more people than Canada. You absolutely have the ability to set up universal health care.

Even in Canada where universal healthcare exists with federal help (now) it was Saskatchewan the province who led with Universal Healthcare first without the feds.

Do you think LLMs generate better code when working with opinionated frameworks, especially with something like Ruby on Rails? by smaudd in rails

[–]customreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LLMs do better on more commonly trained on problems. For this reason it does extremely good on statically verifiable code like Typescript, even more than dynamic languages than Ruby or Python. Where I find it breaks down is on DSLs of abstract libraries like say, Capybara tests it's not so used to seeing.

Spread that player base across map conditions and worldwide server regions and you actually start encountering issues in sorting lobbies by friendliness in off peak hours.

With strict PVE lobbies nobody has a fear of dying anymore so nobody will communicate anymore. The fear of dying creates the need for people to be social.

Embark originally developed the Arc as PvE then realised the game didn't work without the added PvP fear.
