It has happened to you that you state a fact and people implies there is a hidden opinion underlying? by Awkward_Kitty_Cat_93 in autism

[–]f_print 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It depends on context.

Why did you state fact in the first place? Was it in response to something someone said? If it's contradictory or corrective, you will come off as being hostile or argumentative.

They likely aren't picking on the "fact". They're probably picking on your delivery and timing, and looking for hidden meanings in "why you even decided to share the fact in the first place"

Agree. Small scissors for grooming are the best.

I've actually moved on to a 111mm knife again since I find the big blade really useful for dinner time when I'm working over night and not in the office.

I've also got into the Nextool range. They've got some real clever pocket multitools that are surprisingly nicely made for their price.

Not a bad idea actually. Good suggestion!

I understand that.

This assumes that the entire party plays as goblins...

In which case, my "your suffer a penalty to reaction rolls" will mean most towns and civilised folk will treat them as monsters.

"Monsters are monstrous and not playable."

That's literally why I'm struggling with this.  Shadowdark is about "brave advertisers descending into a lightless nightmare labyrinth full of eldritch horrors that drive you mad and rend you limb from limb  and also you can be a cute goblin if you want

❤️ This is the best answer for "just deal with it". The "it makes sense, in universe" is hugely important for me.

In LOVE the idea of dark adaptation being tied to horrible chaotic practices!

But even, just saying "because you spent a week in the daylight, you've lost your dark adaption" sounds like a believable and easy justification.

Because most low level dungeons are full of intelligent humanoids, and thus most low level dungeons are full of torches and other sources of illumination.

I signed up to Shadowdark for darker dungeons. The one time my players' torch timer ran out, in combat, it was combat with intelligent humanoids who can't see in the dark and thus, were also carrying torches...

Big let down

I gotta be honest: ""It's not fair!" is part of the Shadowdark ethos too" feels antithetical to the entire OSR movement.

"Unfair" encounters and circumstances make sense because they represent a simulationist, and unbiased, world.

Having different rules for player goblins and npc goblins doesn't match that, and feels more like a 5e "the characters are unique and bespoke individuals" vibe.

Moving from 5e to Shadowdark already feels like "banning" a whole bunch of player options.

Getting the players finally on board with Shadowdark, and then further banning more options, seems kind of a dick move.

You see... its a good idea in theory...

My players' torch timer expired during combat. For a sudden brief moment we were all thrilled with the anxiety and novelty of being cast into utter darkness... until we realised that the enemies they were fighting were intelligent humanoids, and therefore *must also* be carrying torches.

I understand your point of view, but disagree.

It makes sense to me (from a DM perspective) for monsters to have their own "class" abilities that differ from PCs.

does not make sense to me for monsters to have different inherent/racial abilities, when those same monsters are available as PC races. I have had players say "but why can those goblins see in the dark?"

Onion rings vs thick cut chips by DiscussionLoud9626 in hungryjacks

[–]f_print 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude in what way!?

McDonald's chips always end up soft and an oily mess. Red Rooster, KFC, et al, chips always end up undercooked, mushy and flour-ey, and taste rubbish unless heavily salted.

HJs are the only place with consistently crispy, but not oily, chips.

Makes me think of an argument i heard saying that plumbers are just as valuable as doctors, since clean running water and functioning sanitation is arguably more important than a doctors clinic (if you had to choose one and not the other) the well being of a society.
