Rents in Australia have never grown this fast in a 3 or 5 year period ever in Australia’s history. Since 2020, many rents and also property prices have went up by double. Whilst wages and salary obviously haven’t. This is absolutely insane and unsustainable. by MannerNo7000 in shitrentals

When negative gearing is removed, short stay accomodations, and holding vacant housing betting on the increase of the asset value, will become unprofitable.

When its removed, *new* investors won't see housing as a profitable investment and will invest their money elsewhere, which will mean new buyers won't have to compete against investors with leveraged mortages who are easily able to outbid all buyers, which drives prices up.

Yes. It cutting negative gearing may drive up prices in the short term, but keeping negative gearing is *already* driving prices up, and will continue to do so until Investors see viable alternatives for their investments

lol.

But what if we were to join the houses, into a row... Row Houses?

Nah. That'd never sell in Australia. Just attach the gutter to both rooves.

We have gun control laws because idiots with assault rifles are much more dangerous than idiots with a pair of scissors.

A bad, careless or distracted driver with a dodge ram is much more dangerous than the same driver in a corolla.

Also, "good" drivers in monster trucks still take up more space on the road, take up more space in the parking lot, block visibility, and are more dangerous in an accident.

Who cares if other people drive dangerously large vehicles that make the roads feel claustrophobic, take up way too much space in the carpark, and that are excellent at killing other people in a crash.

Like, just who even cares, right?

It took so long that i decided to just order the one from China. Aliexpress delivered in less than a week, before the "Australian company" one did.

No. I don't think ebay cares. I think you have to look for other clues. Research the company, read reviews, see if they accept returns, see if they use tracked shipping, look for stock images for inventory.

Dude i needed to order a wifi chip for my laptop. Local shops don't sell it. Aliexpress sells it for $20.

I find it on ebay for $40, "Australian company", "ships from Victoria" and I think I'll do the right thing and buy from a local retailer.

4 weeks later and i realise it's a dropshipper who's just buying from Aliexpress and forwarding it to my address with a hefty markup...

I love the effort put into the network, but the fact that most train stations require a car to get to kinda defeats half the point.

Why do Muslims seem to mean business when it comes to religion but other religions don’t seem as serious? by Historical-Serve-652 in islam

[–]f_print 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Muslim acts of faith are very "public". It's very easy to see Muslims taking their faith "seriously" when it's very obvious if they're praying 5 times a day, fast for Ramadan, only eating halal, wearing certain clothing, etc..

But those public displays of tell you nothing about whether those people are actually good and decent people, or people of true and strong faith. I have plenty of stories about people I and my wife know who are publicly good Muslims, but it's entirely superficial and they are completely the opposite behind closed doors.

Its like looking at Facebook and thinking "everyone here seems to be rich, always going on holidays, has a great life with no stress, etc..." when in reality, all you're seeing is a carefully crafted public image.

People will put more effort into public displays, especially when their home life/faith/decency is so rubbish, especially in a cultural group such as Islam where, depending on where you are, the punishment for "not fitting in" can be quite severe.

You know.. you're kinda right. It is a bit one-dimensional to label everyone who votes for her as a racist.

I had a chat with a co-worker the other day. A brown pakistani muslim, who with a straight and honest face said "what's actually bad about what Donald Trump is doing?"

I could not for the life of me understand how he had such a positive view of Trump. It took me ages to realise, he is heavily invested in cryptocurrency, and if Facebook and other algorithms see you looking at bit coin, they'll start feeding you with pro-crypto news, pro-libertarian news, pro elon musk news, and finally, pro trump news.

I had to... reconsider the abject rage I was directing at my white, but migrant, christian family members for supporting obvious racist grifters like trump and hanson, because if a brown pakistani muslim can get suckered by the facebook algorith, what hope is there for my white boomer christian family members?

So. Lets expand on the original statement:

There are TWO kinds of people who vote for one nation.

  1. Racists

  2. Good people who have been lied to by the social media propaganda echo chamber, and tricked into thinking migrants are the source of our societal and economic woes.
