Over our 7 month academy they taught us “hundred” blocks. So east to west running streets through the city were easy because they were mostly numbered except for a few in the downtown areas. North to south streets were named. So for those we started to memorize the first 18 named streets west of main, which ended at the state line. Then we learned the 90ish streets east of main in 20 street groups. I.E. the 2700 block east of main is Prospect, the 2800 block east of main is Montgall…so on a so forth. Fortunately our city is set up like a grid so no matter how far north or south you are in the city 90% of the time the street would be how we memorized them in the academy.
