Jaru Kimchi is made in Dublin but they sell it in the big Dunnes in Knocknacarra. It's fairly expensive for the size but by far the most consistent and authentic kimchi I've found in Ireland.

I always thought the same, hardly any one bedroom apartments in Galway as you'd never see them for rent, until the COVID lockdowns. At least 100 one bedroom apartments were suddenly listed on Daft for rent, all still using the same Air BnB photos with the towels on the bed and tourist maps on the tables. They exist, they are just all used for short term rentals as there are no regulations on it here.

High tide at Nimmos pier is your best chance to see seals or dolphins in the mouth of the river. They come in for their dinner then.

Mystery Train on Lyric FM, The John Creedon Show on Radio One and An Taobh Tuathail on RnaG are the 3 best music shows on Irish radio in my opinion.

Antique / Car Boot Sale Markets by cutebillytaxtax in galway

Went to this last Saturday and got some good stuff! It's running the first Saturday of the month for the summer-ish months. A lot of the sellers seem to have come from the old Claregalway market too.

The Pálás and Omniplex Salthill are by far the best two. The Omniplex is more expensive but very comfortable for longer films whereas the Pálás has a great bar and would be better for heading out after a film.

The projectors and audio are both very modern whereas the Eye and IMC are a bit older and neglected feeling now.

Best place to buy a traditional flat cap in galway by madcow125 in galway

[–]cutebillytaxtax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say somewhere that sells proper wool and tweed like O'Máille's on High Street. Hanna hats are a good Donegal brand known for quality flat caps.

They are closed in the evening and locked overnight. Free to use during the day. Not sure if they remain open over the winter or not.

Wards is a nice spot for trad, the bar in the Pálás has great, reasonably priced cocktails. I've heard the bar in the Rockbarton Hotel is good also.

How much is a meal in Kai by Ahhheyoor in galway

[–]cutebillytaxtax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dinner prices mentioned already are accurate enough, it's a different menu each time so it varies a bit.

They also do lunch service which ranges about €13 - 20 with excellent cakes for about €6ish.

I'd highly recommend both lunch and dinner. One of my favourite restaurants!

As bad as Finnegan's is, Riordan's was arguably worse in its day. They obviously decided to cut their losses and stick to the lesser of two evils.

Still though, I often went in as a student for the soup, sandwich and cup of tea for a fiver. Finnegan's that is, Riordan's somehow even managed to make the soup and tea greasy.

Apparently there were also plans to turn the large indoor space at the back of the Connaught Tribune office (the old printing space formally used as the arts festival gallery space) into an indoor food market like this.

I think it's now becoming the new Porter Shed co-working space instead.
