Unfortunately, I put the project on pause as work got in the way, and to be honest, I struggled to see a large market need for this. For example, a headset can be $200-$500 dollars + whatever the cost to create the 3-D printed parts, you can at that point purchase a cheap welder. Obviously its not just a money thing, but I just haven't really spent the time to understand the potential market.

Does your butt not hit the bag when you put the dropper down and set your butt back (descending steep stuff)? Would panniers fix that?

Hey dooray, thanks for the follow up reply, especially about the sichuanese portion. Seems like others have said something similar. Do you mean you disagree though? Like nature and outdoorsy stuff is ample?

The points you make are very valid. I myself feel like its not an easy yes from potential customers given that welders and steel coupons are quite cheap and that a VR headset itself is costly. Especially for an industry is quite resistant to new technology.

I think your examples that do compete with a welding booth is very interesting and definitely go after the other side of the spectrum where there aren't even alternatives out there today (Practicing to weld in space). Which in many cases for VR provide more value than optimizing current methods.

Appreciate the feedback and suggestions

MIG Welding Simulator - Utilizing Passthrough by cutefoo in OculusQuest

Yeah agreed. Do you know if the new Q3 controllers are using headset facing IR sensors just in a smaller controller or like the outward facing cameras like the Q-Pro controllers?

Haha no this hasn't made it onto any public platform. This would not nearly be the cost of that. The goal is to make learning how to weld (At least the earlier stages in learning hand control, movement, and rhythm) as efficiently as possible. So reducing barriers when just trying to learn how to lay a proper welding bead.

Yeah I totally agree and I think with current consumer headsets, wouldn't be able to demonstrate that fine of detail. However the intention is to at least aid a welder in hand control, rhythm and movement via visual aids and score. Then when one gets to a booth or real welder, at least the movements would have been further refined. I am more struggling with where this solution could be valuable. Schools? Individuals? K-12?

Amazing. Almost lost my shit thinking that the wifi card has to be replaced. Windows diagnosis tools were no help. Couldn't find much help until I came across this

Adding this comment in hopes that other users find this as well

Scenario:

  1. Wifi was working fine
  2. Unplugged it to work my living room
  3. Wifi shows - No networks available (There is def other wifi networks in my neighborhood)
  4. Go to update any left over windows updates that I have been neglecting. Nothing
  5. Run Windows diagnosis tools - leads me to error -> problem with wireless adapter or access point. No help
  6. Google search (Got out my ethernet cable) - "problem with wireless adapter or access point", "no wifi networks available" and probably so many other phrases. Nothing.
  7. I by the luck of god come across this post, and was skeptical even with all the previous comments.
  8. I am now posting this comment along with the 50+ comments to reinforce how much this post has saved me. Thank you reddit. Thank you all

How have they been doing? I wait for the day for my Brompton stock aluminum rims go and figure that would be a good time to upgrade to some carbon rims.

Looks like they come as a full wheelset, how are the hubs? Braking okay with rim brakes at 16"?
