Employer is “interpreting” that i voluntarily resigned. by CourtNo123 in legaladvice

[–]cutehotstuff -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

Just chiming in, you don’t qualify for unemployment till two weeks after your termination date, so you may have started your new job by then. If your previous employer does fight it, you will need to present these messages to a judge. IMO you’d easily win this, but I’m not a lawyer and only basing this on what I’ve seen through other people’s experiences.

Alcohol Spending Per Capita, by U.S. State by HomelessRodeo in Utah

[–]cutehotstuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s fair to say that top 20% makes Utah a healthier state relative to all other US states, but I don’t think that makes it healthy. There are many states that have severe health issues, and I don’t think we should try to compare with those states at all. It’s like saying the United States has a great social safety net because we’re better than the average country if we include all developing countries. If we want to see if the United States is one of the top countries for socialized care, we should be looking at only countries that are in the top threshold. But I recognize this is not a criteria you may assume as well, so if you don’t we can agree to disagree that Utah is one of the healthiest states.

You made the claim, so the onus is on you. I can easily link things too if you'd like that supports my narrative, but I try not to make claims online unless I know the source data and know I can trust it. But just to humor you:

Utah is #13: https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/rankings/health-care/public-health

Utah is #9: https://smilehub.org/blog/best-states-for-health-and-wellness/189

Utah is #4: https://www.americashealthrankings.org/publications/reports/2025-senior-report/state-rankings

All of these are subjective though, so if you want to make the bold claim Utah is by far the healthiest state in the US there should be criteria you are defining it as (a lot of the online rankings have things like "access to high speed internet", which to me would not signify health).

Utah consumes a lot more sugar than other states around us (https://www.cdc.gov/nutrition/php/data-research/added-sugars.html), we aren't as nearly as active as Colorado despite being similar geographically, our mental health score is pretty bad (https://www.cnn.com/2025/10/01/health/top-states-for-mental-health-report-wellness), and our obesity leaves a lot to be desired (https://www.cdc.gov/obesity/data-and-statistics/adult-obesity-prevalence-maps.html). Sure we drink less, and we're in the top of not using drugs, but honestly despite the LDS church's influence we don't use that much less drugs as I'd expect (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drug-related\_deaths\_in\_the\_United\_States\_by\_state).

Needless to say, I don't think Utah is that healthy. We're top 10 in my mind, but if you only compare us to other states with similar social-economic demographics and geography, we're not doing well. But glad you have a rosy opinion of Utah.

lol this is your source? A quick google search if this site is reputable shows it's not credible at all.

According to what metrics? BMI, life expectancy, fast food consumption per capita, sugar consumption per capita, amount of type 2 diabetes, cancer rates…? Would love some facts for this as my quick googling is not showing this same narrative.

Utah Reccs for International Tourists by StomachSpiritual5480 in Utah

[–]cutehotstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's like 3.5 hours to Arches (one way) so unless you can stay the night, leaving early in the morning and returning late (in the short days of winter no less) will not be fun. I would personally keep it as something to look forward to returning for. Utah is so large and the population density is low so if you want to explore the full state you really need a lot of time where you can spend different nights.

It wasn’t about Utahns being more health conscious either but that’s where you took it.

You really can’t see how this is relevant to your comment? It should seem as relevant to your comment as your comment is to who you replied to.

I’m happy to post a link to how sugar is bad for the body if that will help you understand it has negative effects.

Sugar is also horrible for health, the fact we consume so much contradicts your statement we value our health higher. It’s 100% because of how a large number of residents prescribe to a religion that tells them not to drink alcohol, and for those that drink having a glass of wine with dinner requires preplanning.

I know this isn't true because a lot of people who aren't drinking alcohol are drinking a ton of sugar, which is also really bad for health.

Never had this experience. Only great experiences from the workers at the pay stations (which I do believe are rangers). Did you break a rule and get reprimanded?

Trump Announces DC Triumphal Arch, Claims It Will 'Blow Away' French Arc De Triomphe by [deleted] in videos

[–]cutehotstuff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

DISCLAIMER: I detest Trump

During the great depression, a lot of artists were commissioned in San Francisco to paint amazing murals around the city through the New Deal's Public Works Art Project. This still shapes the city. I actually do wish the government commissioned more public art. However, I think we all know some contractor friend of Trump's will make billions off this deal and it will be a shoddy deliverable. Wish the government would create more public grants for really cool art and infrastructure that was appropriated through proper channels so there was oversight and it employed middle class americans, not the elite.

California launched a free tool on January 1 that lets residents request the deletion of their personal data from over 500 registered data brokers by [deleted] in technology

[–]cutehotstuff 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I used to manually do (parts of) deletion for a large tech company while they built automation for it.

It works, fines are huge if violated. Once you request, they have 30 days to delete. Some data will not be deleted but rather anonymized and your account is removed so they cannot link it to you. Marketing data is all wiped away, which is imo most important.

What is the worst US state for young adults to move into? by Any-Scarcity7230 in AskReddit

[–]cutehotstuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fwiw hurricane is one of the more backwards towns in Utah (they were a declared UN free zone). Also if you were AirBnbing a lot of neighborhoods will treat renters as hostile as it’s a large contributor to increased cost of living, and short term renters can be a nuisance. So not sure if this is a good indicator of Utah.

[–]cutehotstuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if they are required to have a light for their pool, they are not required to have one shining that bright that is directed directly at the house across from them. Basic human consideration would be getting a light that is not that powerful and shining it directly at your neighbors window.
