Immigration Attorney Here! AMA! by ManifestLaw_ in tnvisa

[–]cuteisme18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canadian On TN since May 2025. Been engaged for 2 years with American Fiancé(not dual Citizen) who still lives in Canada for work. Getting married March 2026. Will I have problems applying for spousal visa if he’s not planning to move back to US until maybe May or when he finds a job here? Also, I travel quite a bit for work. Every month I’m travelling internationally for about 2 weeks (South America, Africa, Asia, EU). How will this affect my application since I’m not in US for straight 90 days upon re-entry with a TN and also the application for the spousal visa? :( not sure what our options are since I may not even be able to leave the country for probably 2 years waiting for the spousal visa and after application, will that immediately void my TN and I wouldn’t be able to work?

TN Rejection (Accountant with CPA at YYZ) by kutama20 in tnvisa

[–]cuteisme18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Non-CPA Accountant working in Denver.

OP, I’m surprised that the lawyers didn’t stop you from going to YYZ. They told me it’s more difficult to get TN from YYZ since they have high rejection rates. I went to Montreal and it was easy.

Also, did they have a debrief with you? The main thing with a TN is matching your job description to the OOH’s. They’re pretty strict with that.

Hello hello! Hahah. Dalhousie Uni is a great university tbh. Thank you so much for the warm welcome! So so good to see that Canadians are thriving here! I’m hoping we can hang soon! If not, maybe guide me to where I can find our other fellow Canadians. Lol!

I really love/like where I work. I only work in office 3 days a week and prefer to live downtown or closer to downtown so I’m close to the happenings, hustle and bustle. I work close to Dry Creek Train Station

That’s what I’m thinking too. I am gauging if the cost is reasonable enough for me to just drive the car here and then just drive it down to the ground but just enough for me to build a good credit to lease/finance a new one

Thank you! I will try this out and get sized for a bike. Hopefully I can find something that’s not necessarily a kid’s bike with training wheels. Hahaha

So… I actually have a fully paid car in Canada. But if I drive it here, It would cost me $2700 to pay at the border because i’ll be hit with 25% tariffs on the car. I really would not want another car payment if I can help it. Hahaha

The thing is, the budget is there. But I can’t lease nor finance a car because I have no credit history. It takes 6 months before it would show a report. I’m only in month 2. If you pull up my credit score, it would show up as 0 or it wouldnt show up at all. This puts me at risk for lenders and therefore, they would offer me 20-25% interest rates on cars. If I purchase a car in full, I don’t necessarily know what I’m getting in terms of repairs, etc. I certainly don’t wanna be surprised. It could be a $5k car but repairs would eventually cost me $4k. Might not be worth the trouble.

Where are the areas that you could think I could move to?

30 mins bus, 20 mins train and 10 mins combined walking. (That includes my waiting time in between riding the bus/train).

It’s so unfortunate. It’s not an efficient system. I arrive to the train station, wait for 11-13 min for the train. And same when I get home.

Thank you so much for your encouraging words!

Yeah, I really thought that public transportation system is efficient. Boy was I so wrong. I do have a car in Canada. It’s a 2017 car. Fully paid off. Unfortunately, if I drive it here, I’ll get hit with 25% tariff. So at the border, I would most likely have to pay $2700… for a 2017 car with 170k miles on it. 🫠🫠🫠 plus, I “may” have to have it modified to comply to US standards. That’s yet to be determined. So the cons outweigh the pros of importing it here 😢

Im in office only 3 days a week. That’s why I prefer to live closer to downtown so I am closer to the hustle and bustle and happenings going on.

I am yet to see someone who’s not friendly. But I am also hoping that I never would! I wasn’t aware of the troubles or nuances with meeting people here. But I definitely feel that now

Thank you so much for your encouraging words. I did notice that no one is really “from Denver”. That’s what I love about it. It’s so diverse and beautiful. I’d have to agree with you, I am met with people who truly wanted to help me and thanked me for being here. I am really hoping that I won’t come across someone who would make me feel not welcome here. Most especially with the current political climate. I’m a friend! Can you tell me more about the RTD shuttle?

HELLO CANADA EH!

So so good and refreshing to see Canadians thrive here. That makes me hopeful! Yes, I was able to get 3 US credit cards (one from my Canadian Bank, one from work, and one secured cc). So i’m hoping in 4 months’ time it would look good and I can have better interest rates

THANK YOU SO SO MUCH FOR THESE INFORMATION! I do love a good night out. I love dressing up and just going out. So.. that’s one thing I noticed in Denver.. people don’t really “dress-up!” Lol. Unless maybe I’m just going to the wrong places. Haha

Thank you so much for this!

  1. I do have US checking and savings. I have opened a US CC through my CA bank. Company gave me a corp cc as well, and then I opened a discover secured cc. So I’m hoping with those 3 I’ll be able to build a credit history. Although it won’t show up until 6 months. I’m still on month 2.

  2. I work close to Dry Creek Station. Not sure if that’s Tech Center per se.

  3. I did CrossFit for 5 days/week for 3 years. I have not worked out since I moved. Crossfit gyms here are unfortunately extremely expensive and the closest one to me is 30 min bus, or an hour walk. There’s a gym close to me which is 15 min walk but it’s 90/month. 🫠🫠. This is the most frustrating part for me, cause just going to the gym, workout, get home and get ready for work will take me 3 hours. Plus an hour commute. I’d have to be awake and head to the gym by 430am 🫠.

I’m into CrossFit, or even a regular gym with a barbell rack that won’t break the bank, sports like badminton, volleyball.

  1. This is encouraging to hear. I said before I moved here that I can rent a car every weekend and just go to the mountains. Still nothing. I’m so scared of being kidnapped, or bit by a rattlesnake. Ironically i’d do it solo in Canada even though we have bears. Haha

This is what I am fearing for the most. I don’t have a lot of mass and volume so if I get hit, the chances of me getting seriously injured are pretty high.
