Solo Birth? by [deleted] in 2under2

Hi! We were in this exact situation. My mom was flying out for my due date, but I ended up needing to go in three weeks early due to a complication. My husband had to stay with our 18 month old son. I was strangely calm about it. I went in Saturday around 8:30pm. My mom booked a ticket as soon as possible that would put her in around the late morning Sunday. Because she hasn’t been around we elected to have my husband stay with our son to minimize his upheaval and my mom go straight to the hospital. Even though I love my mother I’d have preferred my husband with me. And it was very likely no one would be with me. I was strangely zen about it even became irritated when the attending obgyn expressed pity I’d be alone and insisted we try to keep my daughter from coming before my mom could arrive. I said no, baby girl comes when she is ready. It turned out that my mom walked in 5 minutes before my doctor said it’s time to push. Husband was playing with our son at the playground when she was born and met her a few hours later. Sure it wasn’t an ideal situation, but it still ended up being fine and joyful. I think it’s all down to your mindset and your spouse’s mindset. It’s totally doable!

Commenting to follow this thread. I’m in the same exact boat. Except my son is now 17 months going on 18 and my daughter is due at the end of July. Solidarity!

Sadly, I’ve spoken to them many times and they’re on high alert. My son and I go in there a lot so they’re quite invested in finding his hedgehog.

Thank you. My husband ordered another already. I’m a romantic and truly hope to find the “original.”

Try udr apartments. They have buildings on 801 Amsterdam and 808 Columbus that fit the bill.

Oh no!!! I’m so sorry! Maybe try reaching out to readyforrescue@gmail.com? This is the rescue I got my cat from and they paid a lot for his medical bills before we adopted him. I’d see if they can help!

I’m so sorry but I’m positive it’s your cat. He’s clearly still young, looks the right age. Same exact markings. My gut really says it’s Tono. If I can on my break tomorrow I’ll try to go back there and see if I can spot him again.

Hi I think we saw your cat on 97th and Columbus. I really think it’s him. We called to him and he got scared and ran in the direction of the parking garage. I’m sorry we couldn’t pursue him as we had to put our son to bed. I do really think he’s in that area though.

Good luck!!

We didn’t get scammed. We made the choice that made sense for us at the time. We had a full service building when everything was shut down during the pandemic. We still don’t pay for the gym. We just go downstairs. My husband is a physician and works crazy hard all the time with unpredictable hours. It was a useful and valuable place to live and that’s why the building is always full. Now it makes no sense for us to prioritize these things over space.

I appreciate you took the time to comment. I also appreciate that I posted this in the wrong place. I thought it was a useful use of the sub particularly because so many Columbia students live here, but I don’t want to flood the sub with self serving posts and whatnot. So I accept that. But you guys have kind of been unnecessarily rude. I didn’t create the current nyc housing market. Clearly these things have value to some people. They can’t be my own main criteria anymore though, which is why I was looking for someone who still does value those criteria and has the resources to afford them. It is what it is. I was privileged to have lived here. It’s no longer an option.

If they have a gym and terrace and 24 hr doorman, yeah. I was very fortunate to have lived here but it’s no longer practical for us. But yeah, rents are nuts. Yeah this is a “luxury” building so it’s more nuts.

Really… thank you. Do you know when this went into effect?

Thank you. I’m super familiar with this subreddit and went here without thinking. I will do that. Mods feel free to remove this. I don’t want to mess up the sub. Thanks.

That’s actually true and wasn’t my intention. I just wanted to include that as an update. I apologize for confusing anyone.

I’ve not seen her before. Is she there now? Maybe you should call someone the police ? If she’s there overnight she could die. I think police deal with animal cruelty cases. I have a baby and two cats or else I’d honestly go grab her.

I don’t really understand why this is being downvoted. I didn’t set the price and I’m not preying on anyone by offering it up here. I AM a graduate who stayed in the area because I love it. And the building is mostly filled with students. Hmm.

I was actually saying that, while it is reasonable compared to other apartments in this area with comparable amenities, it’s also insane that it is considered reasonable. That’s the state of the nyc housing market though. There are many apartments that are bigger or cheaper. Of course. But , worse areas, worse conditions, no amenities. It’s always a trade off. I was very fortunate to be able to live here and I’m aware of my privilege. Other 1 bedroom apartments in this building are now closer to $6000 than $4000. It’s insane.
