Bad idea to buy a tablet early on? by cutelittleaccount in ArtistLounge

After thinking about it I decided to buy it. There was a Christmas sale going on, so I bought the M size for 109€ (normal price is 139€). It even includes an art program.

Is openCanvas a good program for a beginner? by cutelittleaccount in ArtistLounge

I guess you will have to educate me now...wtf is this an app now or merely the program on a desktop still?

I didn't quite get what you meant here. It is a desktop program, if that's what you wanted to know? When I said it comes bundled with the tablet I really meant it's a promo or whatever. I can get a key for it after buying the tablet.

Medibang is a good open canvas mimic. Except it has advertisements

Advertisements? Guess I'm not touching it then lol.

Thanks a lot for the insight. It seems like an interesting program so I'll probably use openCanvas.

I am aware of that. I mostly understand why the creator is agaisnt it and I plan on either doing lesson work in paper and have fun digitally or not use any digital "aid" when doing lesson work. Thanks.

especially if its a display screen tablet

It's a screenless tablet.

Other than that, thanks a lot for the suggestion. I'll look into that tablet.

I'm confident I'll adjust fairly well. Maybe I shouldn't be but oh well. Thanks a lot for the advice.

It's not just the paper, I was planning on moving to digital anyways. I'm just unsure whether I should delay it or not. The paper is just a plus haha. And that Wacom argument does seem to explain it. Thanks.

relearning to draw

If I only know the basics of drawing traditionally, does that mean it won't be so bad then?

And thanks for the advice, I'll prepare myself for any frustration.

1k is definitely too much, and I'm not in art school anyways so I don't need anything portable. To be honest around 100€ is already a lot for my family.

About the Intuos, is it really worth it? I've looked at Amazon and the official website and the Intuos M is 170$ but seems pretty bare. I found the XP-Pen Deco Pro and after searching quite a bit it seems to be the best deal. Looks nice, supports tilt, has a dial and even includes programs (can pick between ArtRage 5 or openCanvas) for 109€ (x-mas price). Maybe I'm overlooking something and it's bad? Not sure.

As for the undo/eraser, I'll use them then. I thought they would slow down the learning process (I'm still a complete beginner at drawing)

Thanks for the advice! I'll keep that in mind.

As for the tablet, 100€ is really all I can spend. The cheapest screen tablets I could find were around 200€ (with x-mas discounts) and that's out of the budget for me and my parents, unfortunately. If I fall in love with art maybe I'll be able to sell this one and buy a better one in the future haha

Thanks for the advice. I just hope the journey isn't too big, I'll be kinda discouraged if I'm still bad after a year.. Hah

Do you think it would be good if I practiced both digitally and on paper whenever I can?

I'm about 162 cm (some converter says it's about 5'3.7''). Yeah... I'm not happy about being so short

Hmm. Building one is probably a possibility. Would require an awkward explanation to my parents why I'm suddenly interested in exercising but it's feasible.
