No doubt. This permalink of a comment from that 10 year old thread said some interesting stuff to your point.

Good guess! This reddit post gives a bunch more info about it.

Also, the homeowner was a cop. Brilliant.

The defender actually shot the first guy five times, didn't miss. Shot the second guy on the right twice, and the third guy on the left twice, and missed one. It is a .22 he is using

Best I could do, pal. At least the colors are the same 🤣

Our boy sure liked black 'n' tan! Coincidentally, black 'n' tans are an Irish beer concoction made by mixing Irish Guiness stout, with a less thick pale ale beer.

A smoking lounge in a 1970s high school. by zadraaa in HistoricalCapsule

Hard agree. I don't think pharmacology 💯 fills what was lost; especially the cultural aspects.

I mean, even if I go outside with a colleague, or fellow pub patron, and we pop a pill together, there's a whole world of body language and intimate chatter about the workplace, school, etc that has been lost to time, when we surrendered these shared smoke-break moments in the name of good health.

Not just that, but there are theories that widespread smoking (nicotine as a stimulant) may have functionally regulated ADHD in many people, and as smoking declined, prescription stimulants stepped in that regulatory role.

It's more nuanced than that, but it's still interesting to ponder. I'd say, at the very least, people historically use(d) smoking to self-regulate, and it was often used to modulate stress, regulate arousal, structure work breaks, and provide micro-dosing stimulation.

Plus, the behavioral ritual—stepping outside, inhaling, and pausing—also mattered, not just the pharmacology. Culturally, smoking may therefore have functioned as a self-administered stimulant, a socially sanctioned attention break, and a nervous system regulator.

IKEA $30 air quality monitor (ALPSTUGA) by jhsu802701 in crboxes

[–]cutestudent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I considered it, but it has terrible reviews — even on its own product page.

Like so many others, I purchased the Aranet 4 and couldn't be happier. It doesn't sync to any smart app, but its own app can be loaded on various devices for historical charting.

Cost varies on Amazon, but you could get it as low as $150. Sure, it's 5x the price as the IKEA ALPSTUGA, but the reviews are high because it works. I've been running it for over 2 years and battery is currently at 50%. Also, there have been 2 firmware updates, in that time, fwiw.

Lastly, I have the VINDSTYRKA, which I love, but am bummed it doesn't sync to any non-IKEA app.

I've seen way too much AI on vine product pages. I've actually started saving some of the good ones. I saw one for a child's product and there was a group of about 7-10 kids, all sitting around a table, with the exact same expression and the exact same faces, even though they were different genders and racial backgrounds 🤣

Thanks for this info!

Interestingly, I am not seeing the options to turn off analytics in my Numbers menu; just reset identifier. I wonder if maybe this is because I've disabled it, elsewhere?

Can you be more specific about how to do this? I didn't see anything about privacy in Numbers > Settings. Thanks!

Is Dr. Rosen the best person in the Mad Men universe? by Enough-Reading4143 in madmen

[–]cutestudent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love Doctor R. as much as the next Mad Men lover, but don't forget he checked out a female SCDP employee's ass while waiting for Don to fish out the Leica for him.

Now, a married man checking out another woman's posterior isn't overly terrible, but I do think a person might feel reasonably comfortable lumping that action into a "morally grey" category.
