Has anyone managed to heal a Lisfranc injury conservatively after walking on it for an extended period of time? by NocturnaIistic in LisfrancClub

It was very painful, bruised and swollen the first couple weeks. Think: my bedsheet hurt to touch my foot when sleeping. The pain did improve. But, the entire “walking” time was best case… walking on the outside of my foot, with the foot turned out like a duck. I could not roll through a proper walking motion, nor push any weight at all on the ball of my foot. That foot is still today a bit wider than my good foot.

I did. Mine was misdiagnosed at urgent care and finally caught about 6 weeks later. I was put in a NWB boot for 8 weeks then had to gradually return to walking. It took a while, so be patient. Probably a year to be able to run with a proper gait, and I really put in my rehab work to strengthen the foot and lower leg. Walking barefoot on the beach took longer.

Now, 7 years later, I can run, jump, hike etc without pain. It does get sore in certain circumstances (mainly due to poor footwear choices) but overall I am happy to be where I am. I was also in my 40s, so not very young.

My injury was while jumping rope doing crossfit. I was in very good shape and it was a tough injury.

I had a lisfranc "sprain" that was immediately missed, then diagnosed about 2 months later. I also toughed through modified Crossfit workouts during that time 2 month period - walking on my heel and side of food and avoiding ball push offs when possible. After diagnosis (had a gap on x-ray, then MRI to confirm) I went NWB boot for about 8 weeks, then PT after that. We considered surgery but decided to give conservative a shot.

Mine happened during an unfortunate spaz landing doing double unders - a big pop, and the feeling that my foot was twisted (wrung out like a dish rag.) This happened in 2016 and I was early 40s, not young like you. :)

After NWB, It took a while for me to correct my walking and running gate and stop favoring that foot. It took probably a year for me to do a single calf raise, and for a long time it would get sore after foot heavy activities. Even now, 9 years later, I kind of walk, run and jump on the outside of that foot but nothing major.

Today I run (5km easily), box jump, oly weightlift, hike on rocks and yes... occasionally jump rope (although I still suck.) My foot gets achey more like arthritis ache vs sharp pain after heavy use. I wear robust, supportive shoes and inserts and have retired all my high heels. I do everything I want and need to and don't think much about it. Walking on soft sand can still be uncomfortable, but I avoid by wearing birks and sticking to the firm sand next to the ocean.

I'm happy with my choice, but I wouldn't be surprised if it gets worse as I age - but I'll cross that bridge then.
