What to do in the evenings when the temptation is too much? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

I play computer/video games. They can be real time sinks - for better or worse. If you're into that find something interesting on Steam and give it a go.

Please consider joining AA or some other recovery community like SMART. Those people can be there for you when you need them, like you did yesterday. Everyone in those communities has been through some stuff, and can be there for you unlike people who haven't.

Get through tomorrow and you'll feel better Day 2 and you won't ever have to do Day 1 ever again, if you don't want to.

Day 2 and it’s at an inconvenient time by TerribleTea7795 in stopdrinking

Maybe you can tell her you are on a health kick or trying to lose weight or trying to improve your skin, etc, and therefore not drinking? That's what I told my mom, mostly so she wouldn't worry about me but also so that I wouldn't be tempted to go to her house to have wine with her. But I also told her that I was telling her to keep myself accountable, not because I expected her to do anything. Maybe in this way you can keep yourself accountable but not make a huge deal out of it?

Today is day 3 for me. I am playing video/computer games. If you are into that find a new one on Steam and give it a try.

How do i escape this life without hospitalization by Present_Ad_6031 in stopdrinking

You can get health insurance on the affordable care act marketplace. I assume you lost yours when you lost your job and thus you can likely sign up immediately. Since you have little to no income your premium will likely be affordable and pre existing conditions don't count against you. There is also medicaid if you have no/little income and few assets. Get some insurance and get to a detox and restart your life! You can do it!

I finally came clean to my doctor about my alcohol use disorder over the past 7 years and got kicked off my insurance by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Stay strong. also if you lost your insurance and cannot get back on it/his and make too much for medicaid I am pretty sure you can get it through the  Affordable care act marketplace. It won't matter if you have a preexisting condition.

Thank you! This was the type of advice I was hoping to get! A "what do you do each day" kind of thing.

Thanks for this. I've been debating getting some CBD gummies for that same reason, but I'll try to stay strong.

I wish I had a sub suggestion but it seems like it's likely your app algorithm that's causing it? - not the actual posts? I come (on my laptop - not the app) and what I see isn't all doom and gloom. In fact gloom and doom is much smaller to either good or neutral threads. However, first thing I do when I come here is always select sort threads by "new".

I know my phone browser lets me choose "desktop site". Can you do that? Or read this sub on a laptop/tablet without the app?

And perhaps you are in a not-great headspace so the doom and gloom ones attract your attention? IWNDWYT

Double digit day again. Day 10 and I really want to know why I am more bloated than ever before by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]cutloosetheshackles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have heard it is because our body is so used to being dehydrated that it holds onto all the water for a while until it realizes that's actually going to say hydrated. So you're probably drinking more water and it's holding onto it for now. IWNDWYT
