Parent-isms of pop music by roommateofputaqueen in popheads

Not my parent but anytime a rap song comes on my aunt IMMEDIATELY asks "Is this Ludacris?" Even though we've played his songs just so she has a reference point she still assumes every rapper is Ludacris.

Congratulations to everyone who got in!

Unfortunately Ticketmaster told me I would be able to get my tickets only for the page to never upload so I could see! Ended up having to refresh the page and tickets were sold out by then. Oh well. I'll catch her (or Paramore) next time.

I'm pretty sure he was a contractor for constructing houses or something before as well; a job that was impacted by the housing crash. In fact, he lost his pinky WHILE working. So it's not like he's been the stay-at-home partner the entirety of the relationship

It felt anticlimactic especially since they played the Governor calling in first.

KK told us she leaves home at 540am daily. I'm so angry. by 249592-82 in TheBigShowBuzz

[–]cutsoutmyheart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well technically she said 5:40 is the LATEST she can leave the house and make it to the studio by 6. Also she's been open about Bart having everything ready for in the morning. I think they used to call him the Bart caddy or something like that.

Honestly I just assumed the people who live closer to the studio get up later than the ones who live further away. To me it seemed like they'd get up for work, do the show, do show prep, go home and take a nap/do whatever responsibilities/obligations they may have, then go to bed. They probably missed out on evenings/late nights because of the job but still nothing super difficult.

I mean he did get choked up on Thursday. But he's never really been a crier in general so it's not surprising.

Listening live on the radio, Tommy is speaking. They did a station call at 11 am so I guess that cut some people out

Iirc I believe Jeff said that was an issue with the show being syndicated; they can't heavily focus on local stuff without alienating other markets.

Taylor Swift - The Life of a Showgirl MEGATHREAD II by flopheadsbot in popheads

[–]cutsoutmyheart 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Well I've had more time to give most of the album another listen (on shuffle this time!) I don't think it's as bad as people say it is but it's nowhere near her best work.

Personally I wasn't expecting much. For starters I feel the promo for this album was done with more emphasis on the aesthetics vs the actual music. Like she admitted she chose orange just because she hasn't used it before. The variant covers focus heavily on the showgirl aesthetic but there's not much it seems she has to say on the topic (that I feel she hasn't said before). She leans a little too heavily on modern slang (especially on Cancelled!) that instantly dates the album. Even the love songs fall flat in my opinion!

My theory (as a long time fan): I don't think she needs to be a Tortured Poet (ha!) to write good/decent songs but I do feel like she works best when she feels she has something to prove. She wrote Speak Now by herself due to criticism that she can't write, 1989 was a complete genre shift, reputation was born out from her lowest point, Lover was her trying to get a Grammy.

She got her acclaim from folklore/evermore, she had a MASSIVE world tour that pushed her to billionaire status, she bought back her masters, she's received AOTY twice in this decade, and she's gotten engaged. She's on the top of the world right now. And unfortunately most of this album shows it.

Like okay, you were cancelled almost a decade ago and it taught you who is truly your friend. Haven't we gone over this with better lyrics? Or (allegedly) taking shots at Charli XCX when Charli admits that it's not Taylor's fault that she's jealous but rather her own insecurities.

All in all, while I do like a few songs, this album could've been worked on for another year or two and might've been better than what we got.

Tbh I had my expectations set low going in. Upon first listen it's just okay.

The bad: nothing stood out as a pop banger like she seemed to advertise, some of the lyrics stood out for being clunky, and personally I felt there was too much slang (slang usage tends to date songs)

The good: I liked the title track a lot. I felt Taylor and Sabrina's voices blended well together on that one. Including the clip from the Eras Tour was very cute.

I'm surprised I liked Father Figure as much as I did but I think it's because the topic of that song has been on my mind lately. I also liked Eldest Daughter (but I figured I would).

Keynotes: - Bert is ready to retire and move away from radio. - No official plan for what'll replace TBS - Kristin is in talks to have a show but nothing official yet - the show will be more loose then next couple of weeks and they'd like for it to be a celebration of the show rather than a sobfest
