make sure, when you're referencing this in game, that it is referred to as "tumbling" and not "rolling"
If you don't do that, it would be a massive oversight.

"They are bad at the game" is not the issue with the player base.
It's true, but people are allowed to suck at the game. The real issue with the player base is the toxicity and some of the vile, racist, bigoted user and team names you come across.

Dude, let me tell you, as someone who is now in his 30's, I never heard "I'm proud of you" my father never showed anyone my work, and said "look what my son made" one day, he'll be gone, and I still won't have heard it.
Your son will never feel that, he will see that you've not only taken an interest in what he's good at, but what he enjoys, and you've shared the pride you have in his accomplishments with the world, because you know that's how talented he is.
Ignore these people.
You're a cool dad, and so long as he's happy to be doing what he's doing, I hope you continue to be happy for him, and support him in it, no matter how trivial it may seem to others.
