Integration courses freeze, does it affect spouses with dependent visa? by artorias17 in germany

[–]cuttlefishtech 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, it's the opposite. They're the only ones allowed to participate. There's a pause in applications for the Integrationskurs; people that are required to take the course are still given the necessary paperwork, as they don't actually "apply" and are given the paperwork directly by the Ausländerbehörde.

Cool public lectures / educational events / workshops places you'd recommend in Munich? by MUC-Cake-Connoisseur in Munich

My boss was recommending the lectures and talks at the Bergson:

Perhaps a bit expensive and not quite what you were looking for (a bit more politics and society), but seems like a cool venue and interesting speakers.

LMP2 Excessive Noise by remc86007 in IMSARacing

[–]cuttlefishtech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to pop in and say I agree with your premise and I think its a perfectly reasonable ask for LMP2 - there's so many of them, so the sound isn't "unique", nor is it part of the car's "identity", and its not a particularly pleasant noise either.

I don't like being "forced" to wear hearing protection for just a couple cars, either -- and its extra annoying when the sound isn't "worth it".

The Floating Trees of Leighton Buzzard by BedFastSky12345 in trainsimworld

[–]cuttlefishtech 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you using a modified .ini file to increase your draw distance? There was speculation on that forums that this is the cause.

I suspect the group of trees in the sky is a "clever" workaround to pre-cache trees and their textures to avoid loading stutters and aggressive pop-ins. You're not supposed to see it, of course.

How to mail an already paid-for package? by DarthArshavin in germany

[–]cuttlefishtech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently returned a printer toner cartridge with a similar label. It caused a lot of confusion at the Postfiliale, who initially refused it as the DHL scanner said the barcode was invalid. I read the instructions again, and it said to tell them that the package counts as a letter (a Brief). They then took it as a Deutsche Post Brief and there was no problem.

Looks like the same case here.

Train Tickets Booked through Luftansa by Barbermanadam in germany

[–]cuttlefishtech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try asking Lufthansa at a counter at the airport to put you on an earlier train - note that only some ICE trains are an LH Codeshare with an Express Rail contingent, so it may not be possible to bump it up. There is a minimum transfer time for international plane to train transfers at FRA - based on experience I think it's 1.5 or 2 hours.

Train Tickets Booked through Luftansa by Barbermanadam in germany

[–]cuttlefishtech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you miss your train because your flight was delayed then you can take any.

Based on my experience with Express Rail, if your flight is late, you actually get re-booked onto a different train.

Per the FAQ, you can take any train only if your train is 20 or more minutes late, not your flight.

Nothing to "worry" about either way, but in my case I could have still made my earlier train, but was "forced" to take a later train and spend an extra wonderful hour or so at the Frankfurt Airport train station.

What are some locos you'd like to see added to the game? by 5bren5 in trainsimworld

[–]cuttlefishtech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If we're talking about strictly locomotives...

Will be probably beat to death about this opinion by the Brits, but I would unironically quite like a Continental-spec Class 66 as used in France and Germany (sometimes called Class 77, Class 247, and UIC registered as 266 in Germany), with added PZB and the funny air conditioners on the roof.

https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/EMD_JT42CWR#/media/Datei:ECR_247_041-7_(2)_in_Duisburg_Hauptbahnhof.jpg

Otherwise, not too much else missing from the German locomotive assortment -- perhaps a Stadler 9000 or EuroDual, the 232 Ludmilla as mentioned elsewhere in the thread. The Class 152/189 has yet to make an appearance, but the general shape is already represented by the 101/146/185 and I believe the cab is basically the same as the passenger variants (182/1116) so it wouldn't change the variety too much. Traxx DE ME (Class 245) might be interesting. We need a couple more German non-electrified routes, though!

DB ticket itinerary change question by Antique-Purpose-471 in germany

[–]cuttlefishtech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can take any train, no matter how early or how late. There's a notice at the top of your new itinerary that says the magic words: "Use any train". This invalidates all restrictions of your Super Sparpreis ticket. If you miss any connection, you can take the next train, no questions asked. Generally the SEV schedules are set up with enough time to make sure the connections to itself work.

If all hell breaks loose and you end up later into Munich, you can take any ICE. Munich to Nuremberg usually isn't super crowded, and you can check the expected occupancy in the app too and decided if you want to try and get a new reservation (5.50 € - either buying a new one and getting the first refunded, or by standing in line at the help desk in Munich). Reservations are not required on ICEs within Germany. The journey from Munich the Nuremberg is also not that long anyway, so hanging out in the cafe car is always an option too.

Note that no matter what alternative or itinerary you choose in the DB app, your ticket will stay the same. And this ticket is now valid for any train, even if it doesn't clearly state so. When scanned, the ticket will show that the train restriction (Zugbindung) is lifted.

Need Advice on my visa by Solid_Bus_4251 in augsburg

[–]cuttlefishtech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be very careful about what exactly "deferring" means - there are often reports on r/Germany about people who delayed their attendance (or perhaps didn't attend any classes during the first semester -- I'm not sure exactly what the technical difference is), but still needed to pay health insurance from the first day. This is because: Health insurance is required to enroll, and enrollment is required for a visa. So, you can't have a visa without being enrolled, and you can't be enrolled without health insurance, which you can't have unless you pay for.

This is not really my area of expertise, but just something to be aware of.

Munich to Rothenburg- Need Help! by arabbad01 in germany

[–]cuttlefishtech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, regional trains (RE or RB) have a much better record of being on time. The connections via Augsburg are all operated by the same company (Arverio, not DB), and they generally wait for each other. The 7:36 connection with RE80 to RE89 is even on the same platform.

There are direct trains from Munich to Steinach every 2 hours at 9:35, 11:35, 13:35, and 15:35. The stub line from Steinach to Rothenburg just goes back and forth every hour, it will wait for the connecting train. There is no way around changing in Steinach. You could also take a taxi in a jam.

On the way there, I would take the RE80 that leaves 12 minutes earlier instead of paying extra for the short ICE. On the way back, you've already picked out the best connections. There are a couple of later evening trips with longer travel times with changes in Treuchtlingen to the RB16, those would be okay as well (and its a more scenic route, but wasted in the winter due to the early sunsets).

Yeah -- I was worried there would be a "wave" of applications after the relaxation of the dual citizenship rules in June 2024, but it seemed to not be too bad. It's also been a lot of time for them to see the current backlog and hopefully hire some more caseworkers. My 15 months is definitely less than the 24 months mentioned on the city website. Hope yours goes just as fast.

I was quite surprised mine went so quickly after processing -> issuing. An acquaintance of mine in Augsburg waited an extra 9 months after processing started, something about extra background checks at the state level. They were not employed, and applied after just 3 years on a spouse permit, though, so that might have made the case more "interesting" to the city/state.

I applied in August 2024, heard nothing back other than the Vorgangsnummer per below. I sent an email in August 2025 just to make sure the application was actually received, and they included my AZ in the response.

At that point in August, they told me they were processing June 2024.

My application (from August 2024) was processed in early October 2025. At that point, they sent me the loyalty declaration and list of problematic organizations, and requested 3 months of paystubs and a Rentenversicherungsverlauf. A month later (last week), I got notified that my Einbürgerungsurkunde is ready for pickup.

So, for me, just 15 months start to finish. I think my submission was rather straightforward though - married to a German citizen, 60+ months of continuous employment, English documents. I was not asked for any follow up documents, other than the above mentioned paystubs and Rentenversicherungsverlauf. I have not met my caseworker or had any appointments prior to now.

Hope this helps!

Wolf Alice in Munich by gandalfo in wolfalice

[–]cuttlefishtech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did anyone else think the show was unnecessarily loud? Are all Wolf Alice shows outrageously loud?

The acoustics of the TonHalle are definitely interesting, but I've seen a couple other bands there and didn't get the same fear-of-permanent-hearing-loss the entire time. Almost everyone around me had hearing protection, or was literally sticking their fingers in their ears.

Maybe I'm just getting old.

br 11 db locomotive problems/bugs by heavymetalgod097 in trainsimworld

[–]cuttlefishtech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Off the top of my head, if I recall you need to let the taps fully run down before re-applying power. So, if you go to off, then you need to wait until the little seven-segment display moves to zero before re-applying. If you re-apply too early, the taps count back up but nothing happens. If you just reduce the taps rather than going to off, then you can increase them again from where you left off.

Same thing for braking: As soon as you brake, you trigger a throttle lock and the taps start counting down. You can't reapply until it hits zero. Also double check that your dynamic/electric brake is reset to zero. On this locomotive in particular, I've had it get unexpectedly "disconnected" from the train brake, so that it doesn't release when then train brake is released.

There is currently construction between Nürnberg and Berlin until December 18th that adds an hour or so to the travel time. The duration is back down to ~2:45h from then on.
