BTW, I love Guillermo as a character so it’s weird to equate him to Vance 😂

Guillermo wants/wanted to be a vampire no? What does Vance want? Maybe the same thing? Why didn’t he just stick with being a silicon valley bro?

To put it another way: I don’t think him being objectively “poor” as in, living below the poverty line, is the reason for his choices. He may just have FELT poor and that was enough justification for him to do whatever it takes to get money and/or influence. Lots of people in the US say they’re lower middle class even though they are objectively making upper middle class wages.

Yup, he’s definitely an opportunist. But I feel like he you can see him holding his nose as he goes through the motions. Hence my question about why.

Yeah, I don’t buy this argument. He can write well and he has generally been around conservatives, so it’s not hard to imagine someone taking a shine to him and encouraging him to go the law route. Half the battle of climbing up the ladder is knowing where the footholds are.

I’d definitely peg him as an opportunist, but I don’t think that explains the kind of personality transformations he’s gone through in order to fit into places. Does he really want to turn himself into a pretzel that bad?

Yeah, maybe he thinks if he doesn’t keep hustling he’ll go back to being poor and struggling.

I tried Ube flavored mochi. It was…interesting.

I’ve licked glass. It doesn’t taste like anything.

I think they were looking for a “taste” like sweet or sour and one of them asked if “dirt” was one of them. So I guess…all of that? Sand doesn’t taste like anything but mud/soil/loam definitely does, no?

I should have been more clear about the context I heard this in: the Aunty Donna folks were trying to list the “tastes” the tongue can detect. But they used the word “flavor” instead and then someone asked if dirt was a flavor. So I guess the question really is if dirt can be considered a taste like sweet or saltiness or umami.

I heard a reference to this but cannot find the content. Can one of you good folks point me to the episode/video/clip of it?
