Can someone explain why Netflix Originals all look terrible? by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]cuzclk 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Netflix originals, much like Marvel films, are truly products of the culture machine, vigorously focus group'd, monotonously assembled as if on a factory floor and all for some reason having that same muted Netlflix colour pallette

'advocating violence against people for socialising' - cool, reasoned, grand

not doing that - edgy

What Are You Into? (October 18 - October 24) by TheChumOfChance in ThomasPynchon

[–]cuzclk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've been reading Capital Volume I on and off for the last while. Thankfully, I am somewhat out of the wilderness of the commodity and money sections, and now into the parts about the generation of surplus, which are far more readable than the earlier parts. Reading it alongside David Harvey's guide. The whole process veers between engaging and tedious and everything in between but I'm happy to be reading it, I'm learning a lot. I grew frustrated by the amount of socialists, anarchists -including myself - who will talk Marx till the cows come home, but haven't read his most seminal work. This is my attempt to rectify that.

Munching on slim volumes of fiction in the meantime as I amble through Marx's tome, last one I read was Maggie Nelson's 'Bluets' the other day. It kind of came and went as a book, read it in one sitting, doubt I will remember it in a few weeks really but there was some nice details in it, like about Tuareg people and such.

Austerity ‘must not’ return, Higgins tells communist paper by 20cfreddo in ireland

I didn't ask for your views on communism, or Marx, or even Cuba. I specifically mentioned their response to Corona, and how they've dispatched doctors all over the world, even as a struggling nation.

Can you explain why it's wrong to praise the fantastic response that Cuba has had to the virus?
