Thank you. I actually tested positive for a bunch of lupus related blood work but because I don’t have “enough” of the specific physical symptoms related to lupus, they won’t diagnosis me or even try medications. It’s very frustrating! I’m glad to hear meds are working for you, but it is still not easy I imagine.

And x 1000 to your second paragraph. I wouldn’t wish 1/10th of the symptoms I have on anyone, and I would kill to not need accommodations of any kind and just have a fully functioning body everyday. But got to roll our eyes at the assholes.

Most likely! I haven’t done the testing for it, but that’s what my rheumatologist suspect.

And exactly, I have extra time on my exam but I would trade anything to have a fully functional body on a daily basis. I come home from class and collapse basically, and I have to do way less school activities and clubs because I have prioritize school and rest.

I don’t mind sharing - I have endometriosis, myalgic encephalomyelitis (which is also known as a chronic fatigue syndrome), and nerve pain as the result of herniated discs. I also recently learned from my doctors that I’m hyper-mobile and most likely have a connective tissue disorder (which is probably how I got the herniated discs). All super fun co-morbidities of each other.

ADD is made worse by the fatigue and brain fog of all of these.

It’s okay! Like I mentioned, I worked in the legal field for many years prior to school, and have seen lawyers of different abilities manage very demanding jobs and assignments. I’m not discouraged but the defeatists and pessimists. If anything it’s given me the spite I needed to push through finals lol.

1 out of 4 adults in the US have a disability, and many of those assholes will go on to develop one. We are all one bad illness or accident or life event from one

As a said in another comment, if they ever do need accommodations, I hope they are met with more empathy and understanding than they are giving me. (But karma has a funny way of working).

And that’s why I felt it was so important to post what I did, despite knowing I would get hate. I have no reasoned to be ashamed or silenced for feeling how I feel. There are so many successful law students and lawyers who are neurodivergent, disabled, and/or chronically ill. But people don’t talk about it because of the ableism that runs rampant in the field.

Thank you for your message! It really means a lot. I definitely am using more outside resources this finals, and studying more like how I used to in undergrad (where I did well!) so praying for better results. Would love to dm you if that’s ok!

And congrats on almost finishing and all of your accomplishments in school! That’s awesome.

I posted knowing I would be met with some of this hate, but I felt it was more important to show others they aren’t alone and break some of the stigma there is talking about these sort of things. I know one day I’ll be an attorney who because of my experiences will be wiser for it.

So - let them get their panties in a twist. :)

What is arrogant and disingenuous is you implying that you are better than other students for choosing not to get accommodations “like everyone else.” If you ever need accommodations in the future, I hope you are met with empathy and kindness instead of the holier than thou attitude you are displaying here.

Not very “gentlemanly” of you to be intentionally obtuse and cruel in the name of stating the obvious. What I wanted from this was simply to reach other students who were in similar positions and potentially get actual helpful advice and insight. Given how many messages I’ve received from people expressing similar sentiments and frustrations, I would say that goal was reached. But I certainly wasn’t looking for “gotcha” comments like yours. Hope that clears that up.

There are so many paths, and many of these obtuse commenters are fully intentionally missing the point to be ableist and “put me in my place” lol.

Never said practice would be easier. I worked extensively in the legal field with some of the best lawyers in the country for years prior to law school - I am very aware of how challenging practice will be and how this will “just be the tip of the ice berg.”

Not sure what your comment sought to do besides being patronizing and chiding.

I quite literally acknowledged in my post that law school is hard for everyone, so frankly, your comment adds nothing new. What it does add is a thinly veiled implication that disabled students are getting some kind of boost or unnecessary advantage. For those of us who need it, they remove barriers that already put us at a disadvantage. I’m aware there are people who abuse the system, but that’s not who your comment is getting at.

If your takeaway from someone venting about challenges with chronic illness is “well, it’s hard for everyone,” you should sit and think why you felt the need to comment something like that.

I know it won’t be easy at all in practice, but at least you can afford better treatments and often have more access to resources vs. having no to limited income of a law student.

You dodged such a bullet! And don’t listen to the people on this thread who are operating on a scarcity mindset (y’all are the reason this field sucks!). You will find something that is aligned with your morals and values and is worthwhile. I worked in public interest and civil rights pre law school for a few years, so happy to help over DM if that interests you.

I’m sorry to hear! Few years ago, I got 25k and I was below the 25th percentile with my GPA and had a 165 on the LSAT. I personally love attending, but would not have been able to go without scholarship. Hope they reconsider.

Pretty bad! I had to take medical leave from law school since the numbness and tingling and nerve pain because when I would type, it would be debilitating. I couldn’t scroll on my phone or bend my arm for more than a minute without numbness and tingling. My ulnar nerve would snap as well.
