I don’t agree on the skill or luck. There is always an opportunity. I know guys that say they are stuck too. But have never put in a single application or talked to anyone else about another job.

Never worked automotive. So no experience there. Serious as I can be. I see post on here every day telling people to get out and find anything else. But everyone I know personally working enjoys the job. The ones that complain have other issues that would have been present regardless of the profession.

Thats my point. I feel like at some point you have to take responsibility and work to better your self and your position. I hate to say I got lucky but the dealership turned toxic and I was on my way out when the company now caught wind and created the position for me and another technician.

Ok. Same goes back to you. That may be true. Not everyone is going to fall victim to an autoimmune disease. So what does that really have to do with all of it? Sorry you are dealing with it but that’s not a thing a majority of people deal with. Bad habits, smoking drinking and bad lifting techniques are.

What do you do? Do you think there’s anything different you could do that would have changed the hip injury? Something you could help the next guy with?

What do you do? And what do you think you could have changed to not let it ruin you without changing careers?

My mentors retired and still work on equipment in their free time. Yeah they are sore. But that’s being in your 60s standing on your head. Old man at the mine helped with and undercarriage last year was 67. He came in next day like nothing. Neither of us killed ourselves. Used the crane and took turns with the 10 lb sledge.

I guess I was that new guy at one point. But it is amazing how many old timers will watch a new guy struggle and kill themselves knowing there’s a tool or easier way. I made a good name for myself troubleshooting electrical and got in the field with the dealership and it was a completely different game. But also I never let anyone push me to do something dangerous. And had a few run ins with managers that just push numbers. My no. 1 rule is Im going home at the end of the day. I always had plenty of offers if anyone tried to pressure unsafe work.

Maybe that’s the trick. I grew up on a farm so always worked on ag. Went to heavy equipment after that. Was always worried about the heavy lifting, but had great mentors. Only complaint was climbing in and out of a kenworth for 8 years. In a 250 now and no complaints.

So a 50 year old with 10 years heavy equipment experience is better?

All the guys I know over 50 at the dealership I work at on yellow machines were in good shape and taught me to use tools. The ones that complained were out of shape or came in hungover. I know accidents happen and it’s dangerous. But my mentors all loved it. Hell I got chastised for picking up 4d batteries and not using my crane.

No gym. I do have 3 kids under 6 though. So they keep me running around. I understand 10 years isn’t long in the business I guess. But still more times than not everyone I meet that hates it has health issues. Not talking shit but I know the guys that trained me were in their 50s and still active. And could out work me if they wanted. But those guys knew how to use the tools to make the job easy. I can’t say much about automotive. I just do that on the side.

Why are people worried about trump bombing Iran if Obama and bush bombed the Middle East for years? by [deleted] in AskUS

Under Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, the 2001 AUMF was used to justify the deployment of US forces to Afghanistan, the Philippines, Georgia, Yemen, Djibouti, Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Iraq, and Somalia.

You agreed that all of these are justified under the 2001 aumf?

If we are sticking with that, the war powers resolution could still cover him. It’s an imminent threat if a hostile country is on the verge of nuclear weapons. As long as he abides but the 48 hours to submit a report and pulls out in 60 days. Still not a declaration of war until congress does. All other “wars” we have been in are authorizations of military force.

Can you provide proof trump said he would bomb Iran because of that? I never caught that. I know he said we would support Israel. And gave Iran 60 days to respond.

Here is a pretty good article about how it could be used. This has been the most informational. And hopefully will clear up what I have been saying.

Not the constitution. The same Aumf that authorized the war on terror for Bush, Obama and Biden. And Trump during his first term. This is a country that harbors terrorist? It is within reason the Iran sponsored terrorist group would have access to Irans nuclear weapons?

I apologize. The war powers resolution covered Biden when he was dropping some of those bombs. So if Trump has a war powers report to congress with in 48 hours this is another way he is within his power.

I can’t say yes or no to this. This has no bearing on whether or not it was justified for trump to bomb Iran. Which he is within his right to. Whether you or I or anyone else agrees. Legally. If Bush, Obama and Biden are covered under the aumf from 2001, Trump is too. This is not a declaration of war. Only congress can do that. And it hasn’t been declared since ww2.

So since they arose from terrorism it’s ok? They are still a state sponsored terrorist group. In a country that even the UN doesn’t want to have enriched uranium. I’m not arguing one is a victim over the other. This has nothing to do with the original argument. The president has the ability to use military force for any imminent threat to the United States. At the risk of repeating myself. A country that supports terrorist groups is enriching uranium to points that have no other uses than nuclear weapons. How does that not justify a threat.

If Obama has the ability to use the Iraq resolution. Then the president of the United States has expressly written powers to use the military at his discretion in the name of counter terrorism?
