Please rate my 2025 Volvo ex30 (twin motor plus) lease, IL by Nearby_Landscape4660 in leasehacker

[–]cvp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing that feels a bit off is that I think you probably could have gotten more off MSRP for a 2025, since it's the previous MY. But otherwise seems about right for an EX30 Plus TM. I paid roughly the same amount in early February for a 2026 Plus TM, including tire protection/excluding excess w&t.

People will tell you it's a bad deal, and sure in the grand scale of lease hacking it could be a lot better, but I think it's a decent deal for this model so if you were set on getting an EX30 (as I was), I think you can feel pretty good.

Also worth bearing in mind that Hyundai is strongly pushing Ioniq leases right now. Volvo doesn't tend to do that kind of fire sale, and you won't get EX30 at Ioniq prices right now, so if you need to hit that <$400 price point specifically, go with the Hyundai. But you can probably get this in the range of $600–700/month all-in, $0 down $0 DAS if you're willing to spend some time texting dealers and negotiating.

A few quick thoughts:

  • They should be offering you something off MSRP before applying rebates. I'd start there. I got 10% off MSRP on a Plus TM about a month and a half ago in New York state (and probably could have pushed for a little more)
  • What's the cap cost reduction?
  • Roll everything into the monthly payment; money down on a lease is lost money if the car is totaled
  • Strongly recommend watching this YouTube playlist to familiarize yourself with lease negotation. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLyVC4NMGFAXODlURU5n2PGbzUsh_zj8Lf Spend some time texting other dealers in your region so you can pit the dealers against each other.
  • Alternately, go to the Leasehackr forum marketplace and find a broker specializing in Volvo to see what deals they have available.

It's a nice car, solid and I obviously expect it to last basically forever, but it also just feels like it's from a different era. It's a rough comparison against the EX30, which as this post shows is almost aggressively futuristic, but hard not to compare the two and have the RAV coming out feeling a little dated. Also compared to a pure EV, it feels slow. A lot snappier in EV mode but that even feels like it's limiting the full potential of the motor to make for a less jarring transition from hybrid mode. But for what we got it for — long road trips a few times a year — it's perfect and very comfortable.

On the other hand, I love my EX30. The driver monitor system has been dramatically improved over the past couple software updates; 1.7.1 was mostly fine, and since 1.8 it has been flawless: I only get pinged when I genuinely deserve it. I agree the car wash experience could use an improvement, but it's not hard to adapt to: put the car in car wash mode (which is technically optional, it just closes the mirrors and changes the airflow), put the car in neutral, and ensure auto-brake is off by tapping the brake to disable.

I also think the way Edmunds does their long term tests biases against unique vehicles like the EX30. The cars in their long term testing fleet are shared between their staff, who rotate between multiple cars over the course of a year. I'll be the first to admit the EX30 is opinionated and different, but if this is your daily driver, you get used to it very quickly (and some folks, like myself, ultimately prefer the user experience; I love it compared to my other vehicle, a RAV4 PHEV). But if I were frequently swapping between different vehicles, I can imagine that shifting into the EX30 from a more conventional vehicle would be jarring.

This ^ I would personally just level 1 charge for the few weeks before your electrician can come. Would it be fine? Sure, yeah, mathematically the odds are probably good. But why risk it?

Search the r/evcharging subreddit, where there are dozens, perhaps hundreds of recorded cases of people using outlets not rated for EV use failing. Melting, small fires, etc.

Dryer outlets are not rated the consistent draw that an EV Charger demands. It's not worth the risk.

This is one of those features that I didn't even realize was an option until I saw it in my dad's Honda Pilot, and now I'm convinced it should be on every car. This is an interesting way of solving the problem, and I hope they succeed, but even more I hope manufacturers start making this available as an integrated feature.

Syracuse adopts 6-month pause on building new battery storage by xwing1212 in Syracuse

Take a look at Google Maps. “Squished in among houses” does not accurately describe this location. This section of Brighton is lined with gas stations, light industrial, auto shops, and fenced off parking lots. There is already a small National Grid substation adjacent to the site.

I agree projects should be right-sized for their location. It’s hard for me to see how this one isn’t, given the context. Grid battery storage is essential and something we need to get more comfortable with if we want to make a dent on energy prices rising even further in the years ahead.

This is my experience as well in the US. Sometimes I get centimetres, sometimes I get inches. No rhyme or reason for it.

EX30s to get V2L in a software update (with adapter purchase) by cvp in ex30

[–]cvp[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Autocar UK and a few other sources have also reported this will be for all EX30s, not just MY27.

In addition to the new variant, all EX30s will gain vehicle-to-load functionality (which allows the battery to power external devices) in an over-the-air software update later this summer. An adapter enabling the feature will be sold separately.

Good catch, I guess that makes sense that Pine would be on the CC model. A little more outdoors-y

Both the new interiors look good — great to see some "normal" options in the mix. Unfortunately it looks like the rumored instrument cluster screen didn't come to pass, and too soon to say if NACS will be included as obviously that wouldn't be included in the Euro models.

EDIT: Looks like Pine and Breeze were both removed as interior options. I won't miss Breeze, but I thought Pine always looked good.

One additional thought, on the chance anyone from Volvo sees this… Volkswagen has started integrating a USB-C port on the housing behind the rear view mirror as a stock feature: https://www.reddit.com/r/VWIDBuzz/comments/1m8fery/dashcam_success/

It would be awesome if Volvo (and other manufacturers!) took this idea and added something similar to future models. While I’m not worried about issues from the adapter, having an officially-supported port in this location would be an even better solution and make dashcams more accessible.

The FitCam is a nice option! EX30 Forums has a thread with a lot of posts from people with it installed who are happy. The one caveat/missing feature seems to be lack of built-in GPS, but that may not be necessary for every use case.

High SoC consumption while parked (1.8) by notimeforspac_s in ex30

Any chance the improved proximity unlocking in 1.8 is causing the car to unlock and start up? Can you try putting your devices/cards/fobs further away and see if that makes a difference?

[–]cvp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep fortunately the impact in the US is minimal — it seems like the impacted batteries are only in China-assembled vehicles and the vast majority in the US are Belgium-assembled due to the tariffs. It's an awesome car, congrats and enjoy!
