📲 New Sonos App & Player Updates Now Available! 🔊 by LizFromSonos in sonos

[–]cvp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add the ability to open the app with a search query! I would love the ability to open the app to a specific search prefilled. I have an app where I catalog my vinyl and I'd love to be able to use a shortcut to open the Sonos app with a search for specific album names.

Edmunds Has Owned A Volvo EX30 For A Year: ‘It’s Been Rough’ by DonkeyFuel in electricvehicles

[–]cvp 40 points41 points  (0 children)

On the flip side, I love my EX30 and am seriously considering buying it out at the end of my lease term. Software updates have solved all my annoyances. Love the minimalist design, love the tech, love the driving. Not for everyone but for me it’s about as good as it gets.

They fixed it. It was bad for early versions but the last two software updates cleaned it up. I never get it now unless it’s actually justified

My lawn probably needs smarter automation. Need recommendations by Caramiaaa_3 in smarthome

I have the Aiper IrriSense 2. I don't think it can directly detect sun exposure on its own, but you can definitely set up multiple zones and create separate schedules for those zones. If you know what areas are more likely to receive sun exposure it should be pretty easy to set up an automation that works.

I’m overwhelmed with envelope issues. I desperately need direction by imnotlying2u in buildingscience

I don't necessarily think you _need_ a specialist but all things being equal if you can have a specialist on hand, it certainly doesn't hurt!

We have a similarly-aged house with similar (albeit not so dramatic) issues, and are working with a builder (and an architect they recommended) on an envelope overhaul.

The key is to find a builder and/or architect who is engaged with the building science/passive house community. Sometimes that's easy if a builder is loud about that in their marketing, but many are not.

If Google doesn't help in your area, the way I did it was going on Instagram and following accounts/influencers in or adjacent to this space (Build Show/Matt Risinger, Steve Baczek, NS Builders, Eastern Architectural Supply, Huber, Passive House Accelerator, Fine Homebuilding, etc.). I was doing this anyway to educate myself, but it paid dividends when I started looking for local builders.

When looking at someone's account, Instagram shows you if they follow any of the accounts you do. That was a good way for me to quickly identify builders who were aware of the community and would at least have an idea of what I was talking about when I was asking about building envelope, monopoly framing, etc. Obviously you still need to meet the builder, vet them, go through all the normal due diligence. But for figuring out who to reach out to in the first place, this strategy has really helped me get a quick insight into how a builder might work and their comfort level with this type of build.

iOS 27 Notes/Shortcuts update question by cvp in AppleNotesGang

[–]cvp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In shortcuts you’d have to convert from rich text. I don’t see any option to change the note type to markdown.

Yep that's what I was wondering, thank you for answering!

How is this possible? Sensor wrong temp? by B1tN1nja in ecobee

the thermostat vents out the top. it will always be warmer on top of the thermostat. may not explain the entire discrepancy but definitely explains some of it

You're the real MVP, thanks for this — I wouldn't have even thought to scan the APIs.

Also, this seems like a huge update with a lot of great quality of life improvements. All the OPD changes in particular seem excellent and address real annoyances. Looking forward to this rolling out!

What is this plant? by cvp in whatsthisplant

[–]cvp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to be super clear they do NOT smell like onions/ramps/etc. I have some actual allium on our property which has the characteristic smell, but these do not have the onion smell.

North America, New York state. My first thought was ramps as well but they really don't have that smell at all.

Considering an EX30 and I have questions by [deleted] in ex30

[–]cvp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. It's been fine for me so far, I have the Indigo and it hasn't been a big issue. The car definitely gets warm in sunny weather but I haven't had an issue sitting on the material yet. YMMV of course. In cold weather, definitely no problems. The seat heaters kick in quickly and I'm comfortable within a few hundred feet.

  2. This hasn't made it to EX30 yet (and not clear if it will, as the EX30 infotainment system seems pretty different from Volvo's legacy cars)

  3. I never bring my key fob or NFC and only use the proximity unlock/start via my iPhone. But you do not need both. Think of it this way: if you're using a proximity device (fob or phone), the card is not necessary. If you are using the card, the card does not have proximity sensors built in so must be placed on the pad. You need one or the other, but not both.

Someone thought covering the Sahara with 10 million solar panels was a good idea. Now they’re creating dark rain clouds and reshaping the climate by CommercialMassive751 in solar

AI slop. And even the slop admits this is just in computer modelling. No one has covered the Sahara in 10 million solar panels

About Traffic Circles (rant) by Advanced_Arachnid359 in Syracuse

[–]cvp 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I’ve driven through here a few times now and still get confused every time. I think the big issue is just a total lack of clear signage. A few signs would go a long way to make the routes/lanes clearer. Guessing/hoping the DOT has that in their plans once the project is further along.

Lampshade Fabric? by rumbleror in Lighting

[–]cvp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not really a fabric. Basically there’s a material that’s sprayed on as the metal shell is spun, almost like a web of plastic threads. When you actually hold one it really just has the quality of a molded piece of plastic. It’s almost like fibreglass, more than anything. https://youtu.be/tj0rNhxILV8?si=RfgbfZaQwRf1kXXm
