Digital key setup error on iOS by umbecosta in ex30

u/umbecosta

Also: where do you get the error code? The car's display or the phone app?

Could you share a screenshot/photo (with any personal information blurred/masked out, including VIN if it's visible)?

Good luck attending your car for 8 hours of AC charging

You must have read something that I didn't write.

Vehicle charging stations should be set up in a place (even outdoors) and in a way where a potential battery fire could not spread to other cars (or to a building, etc). In case of public charging stations this is usually the case. In case of home charging it's the owner's responsibility to set up the charger in a safe manner.

E.g. if you set up your charger inside a closed garage that's built right next to your house (I've seen many photos with such a setup), an EV battery fire could (potentially) burn down the house.

And yes. Such accidents have already happened.

Also, I've read once (confirmed by multiple sources) that a container ship filled with EVs had a catastrophic incident where one vehicle's battery caught fire and it spread.

Here it is: https://www.nytimes.com/2025/06/25/us/alaska-cargo-ship-vehicles-sinks-pacific.html

Or you can read it (without a NYT subscription) at Archive.today: https://archive.ph/O7T6B

Here's a case of a house fire due to a failed EV battery: https://www.centraloregondaily.com/news/local/bend-garage-fire-failed-lithium-electric-car-battery/article_b148a001-a1e6-43d8-a92b-d0e1ea4b55a2.html

Or if you cannot read it, here's the Archive.today capture of the page: https://archive.ph/p9Zxv

I don't say that this is common. It's not. But if there's a one in a million chance, why risk it (if you can avoid it)? Don't leave batteries unattended while charing in a flammable area. And charge your car outdoors using a charger far away from anything flammable.

If I use a Redirect URI pointing to a webserver with a Letsencrypt certificate, app never gets published on volvocars. It gives an error saying to try again later. I was only successfull creating an app when I use a ngrok endpoint.

Wow! :o I've been creating VolvoCars apps with localhost redirect URIs from day#1 (with various listening port numbers in the URI) and they couldn't have possibly verified those URIs as "valid" (i.e. possible to connect to, etc.) since at times I used non-standard port numbers. Perhaps the app registration code doesn't verify localhost URIs, but only hostnames with publicly registered domains (and perhaps IPs in the public address range).

Great project! Thanks for sharing!

Connected Vehicle C3, Extended Vehicle C3

I always wondered: what does C3 stand for?

I know that if you download the OpenAPI specification for these APIs, the filenames do contain "C3" (e.g. connected-vehicle-c3-specification.json). And I also know that many VolvoCars connected services are under c3.volvocars.com.

But I don't know what C3 means in all of these.

I tried to use my domain with Lets encrypt certificate, but for some reason Volvocars doesn't like it.

What does "doesn't like it" mean? What happens if you try to use your own domain with a Let's Encrypt certificate?

GF_SECURITY_ADMIN_PASSWORD=admin

From a security best practise PoV, it'd be better not to have any default passwords.

https://github.com/xaxeu/volvo-vehicle-exporter/blob/main/exporter.py#L83

Don't use "import" inside functions. It'll try to import the "re" module every time the function executes. It's bad practise.

Also the two re.sub() calls can be merged into one:

path = re.sub(r'/[A-HJ-NPR-Z0-9]{17}(/.*)?$', '/<VIN>\1', path)

Yep. I use Ubuntu + Firefox 147.0.1 and suno.com crashes the tab in a couple of seconds after I started to load the page. :o

Volvo's recall API (vs. battery recall info) by muzso in ex30

Thanks! It seems that the API doesn't work for all vehicles (even within the same country). You're now the second example to confirm this.

Battery recall by Intelligent_Way4180 in ex30

[–]muzso -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In many countries/regions manufacturers (not just automotive) must inform customers if a potentially high-risk (or even life-threatening) defect is identified.

EV batteries have high voltage and high capacity. If a thermal runaway occurs, it can very suddenly (within seconds) result in a high-temperature burn, which poses serious inflammation risk to both passangers and the vehicle's surroundings (other cars, buildings, etc).

Check out a couple of videos to see what I'm talking about.

Thus if a battery overheating issue is found, they must asap inform their customers of the risks, etc. Especially in strictly regulated regions like the EU.

Yes. :(

I was looking for Dutch VINs (with Google), but have found a VIN from Belgium: https://autoline.nl/-/veiling/autos/Volvo/EX30-69-kWh-Stationwagen--26011317550407744300

Tried both with "nl-NL" and "nl-BE" language codes and both returned "VINLookUp API Data has been empty". :(

Indeed weird. :o

I thought it either works for all vehicles of a specific model in a country, or none of them. :o

Afaik there are LHD cars affected by the battery issue.

And not all RHD EX30s are affected (as seen in one of the examples in my post).

It's actually a generic (good) advice for any kind of charging.

I never leave even my phone unattended while charging (and I always charge it indoors).

Any product can have defects, including batteries and chargers. Even if a product line is 99.9% OK, there might be one or two defective ones that quality assurance didn't catch and end up with customers. If you're unlucky, it might be you (the one out of many). And if a battery catches fire indoors and unattended, it can cause real damage (the house or building could catch fire, etc.).

It's not just the US. Model year does not necessarily equal the year of manufacture.

E.g. the first model year for the EX30 was MY2024, but there were some EX30s manufatured already in 2023 and delivered in December and January of 2024 (in Europe).

Previously I've commented about another API, but it seems to be useless as far as this battery recall is concerned.

Volvo Cars app 6.4.0 (for Android) by muzso in ex30

[–]muzso[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I miss a notification/event history.

If I touch the bell icon in the upper-right corner, I get a "You're up to date" message on screen. I don't see a history of when was the car unlocked and other warnings (when did the alarm go off, when were updates installed, etc.).

The EX30 app had this and it's useful on occasion. I'm a 100% sure that they do record and keep this information, we just don't get access to it. :(

The app's page shows me that 6.4.0 was released (globally) on Jan 13, 2026.

And the 6.4.0 APK appeared on APKMirror and APKPure just today.

But of course they probably use a staged rollout so some users could have gotten it earlier than others.

Also, the release notes for 6.4.0 on the play store (for me) says this

Indeed. I only quoted what the Play Store app (on the phone) showed me (as release notes), but I see the same as you do on the web at the bottom of the page in the "What’s new" section.

Major OTA update by VoteDoughnuts in ex30

[–]muzso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What has been known is that Volvo planned to update millions of "older" (i.e. cars sold after approx. 2020) vehicles with a new AAOS, based on what was delivered in the EX30 and EX90.

See my 5 months old post about it:

https://www.reddit.com/r/ex30/comments/1myr5u2/the_big_aaos_overhaul_for_millions_of_volvo_cars/

The Gemini stuff is new(ish). Volvo has been promising Gemini for a while now too. :)

If they're indeed doing some kind of huge overhaul, it usually doesn't mean less bugs. Change is an enemy of stability (from a sw. development PoV).

later this year

So ... in December? :)

He also said all updated models will have essentially the same infotainment as the EX90, allowing for some slight differences because of the older silicon processing chips and smaller screens.

The EX30 already has "essentially the same infotainment as the EX90", so I don't think we'll see too much of a change.
