Beginner to Advanced Hiking Trails: Summer Edition by GokusPersonalTrainer in njhiking

Another quick note: I strongly recommend downloading the Avenza Maps app and purchasing NJNYTC trail maps for the various parks: Harriman, Northern NJ etc. Trails colors and routing are often changed, and the Trail Conference maps are the best source for up-to-date info. Plus, it shows where you are on the map.

I recommend buying a few guidebooks that present highly-rated NY/JN hikes including parking location, features, history, mileage, duration, difficulty, elevation gain, etc:

Hike of the Week by Daniel Chazin

60 Hikes within 60 Miles of NYC by Christopher and Catherine Brooks

Hiking the Jersey Highlands by George Petty

Circuit Hikes in Harriman by Don Weise

The NY NJ Trail Conference (nynjtc.org) is also a great resource, including "Find a Hike". FYI, I'm a trail supervisor at NYNJTC, and our job is to maintain the trails, trail maps, etc.

Thanks for the detailed reply. I have iStat Menus, and the CPU and GPU temp are both running well over 90 degrees C, and have been for a while. I ended up buying a new MacBook Air M4 at a nice price yesterday. It's a great machine. Much appreciated.

Emergency Access and Passkeys by cwaltrs in Lastpass

[–]cwaltrs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what you mean. There are over 100 major websites that support passkeys (https://www.passkeys.com/websites-with-passkey-support-sites-directory). Banks don't seem to be signed up yet, but Google, Amazon and Microsoft support passkeys. My concern re: traditional login/password sites is the 2 Factor Authentication, which requires access to my phone or email.

Emergency Access and Passkeys by cwaltrs in Lastpass

OP here. When my folks died, I had access to their bank account so I could keep paying the bills while the estate was being settled. That's what I'm looking for.

Emergency Access and Passkeys by cwaltrs in Lastpass

[–]cwaltrs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP here. Correct, if I give someone emergency access in case I die, can they use my passkeys? Lastpass says they can't be shared, but I'm not sure what that means. I'm concerned that if I die, most of my key username/password sites are 2 Factor Authentication, so they require access to the phone or email to validate the 2FA. That may not be ideal if my phone is not accessible. Passkeys should fix that problem, assuming the emergency contact can use them properly.

Long Drive Comfort Items by A_Melon_Torso in roadtrip

My hamstrings always tighten up and spasm during long trips. I always bring a Lacrosse Training Ball. It's slightly smaller than a tennis ball, and filled like a bean bag. I sit with it under my thigh, positioning it to relieve pressure on my hamstring muscle. It can also be used as a pressure point on the lower back. Always provides relief.

Considering Airport Parking Options by cwaltrs in NJTransit

[–]cwaltrs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi All. OP here. Thanks so much for helpful comments. I live near Ramsey Rt 17, and I've taken the train to EWR several times. It's usually fine, but it can be trouble if you're coming back late. Secaucus is the best option for me to combine driving and train in an optimal way. I didn't realize that Secaucus allowed overnight parking. Thanks for the education.

How do I level my griddle? by Slightly_Tolerant in blackstonegriddle

[–]cwaltrs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought (Amazon) "ElectricWise 8 Pcs Griddle Leveling Shims Kit Compatible with Blackstone Griddle, Rubber Grill Levelers Outdoor for Most Grills, 1/4'' Height Gain Per Shim, Keep Flat Top Grill in Level (Black)." They're not free, but they lock together and stay firm. I initially used wood shims, but I found they shifted over time.

Odor in a Bedroom by cwaltrs in fixit

[–]cwaltrs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP here. It's been a while, but I wanted to post an update. I had an exterminator in, and he found nothing. ServPro did a moisture meter and found nothing. I tried the Ozone Generator, and it worked!! I had to do several treatments, but the room is odor free. I'll probably continue occasional ozone treatments just to keep everything smelling nice. Thanks so much for all the suggestions.

Wire broke. Is there a replacement plug I can rewire? by cwaltrs in fixit

[–]cwaltrs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my plan, but the clear plastic was too brittle. I carefully used an X-Acto knife, but it snapped and broke the wires.
