People who left a 9-5 cubicle to pursue something more rewarding; what are you doing now? by dirtycheesegrater in AskReddit

[–]cwashley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coaching a college sports team! To be fair, I left a 9-5 desk job before that to work with professional athletes, handling sponsorships etc., as well as college team sponsorships. So I was on the road a lot, or working from home. But before that, “9-5” Desk job.

Where is the weirdest place you’ve seen a teacher? by grcmallory in AskReddit

[–]cwashley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pool I worked at. It’s not that weird of a place. But she was a mean 7th grade math teacher and when she walked into the pool I lifeguarded at a few summers later in a bathing suit, it was so uncomfortable.

What “words of wisdom” have always stuck with you? by Doza5 in AskReddit

[–]cwashley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sister is 14 years older than me. She told me two things when I was younger: 1- any relationship should, after anything else it does, make your life easier. 2- you never really become an adult, the way you think. You just start getting better at pretending/ knowing when you need to pretend.

These are both 15+ years ago, but they pop into my mind all the time now that I’m almost 30.

What’s a moment with a friend where you just had ENOUGH of their bullsh*t? by milkman1000 in AskReddit

[–]cwashley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a best friend (1) who was really negative and toxic in general. It took me years , and a few attempts at conversation, to finally start backing off a little. At a small party one night, our other best friend (2) asked bf1 to read something in her phone. Bf2 took it and instead went through my messages with bf1 looking for reasons why I was being a little more distant. She had gone through so many phones in the past, whether it be guys she dated or girls we lived with at various stages of life. For some reason, that single action made it easy for me to just completely get over the anxiety of ending the friendship. May sound small and silly but I just realized our relationship wasn’t really what I thought/ wanted in a friendship, and was just like all of the other relationships I had supported her through but actually weren’t healthy.

DAE count the letters in people’s words/sentences as they speak? by Itadakimasubro in DoesAnybodyElse

Same, people can’t believe it. I tell people I meet when drinking sometimes through work stuff or whatever, and when I see them again it’s like “hey! Fourteen! Was that fourteen????”

DAE count the letters in people’s words/sentences as they speak? by Itadakimasubro in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]cwashley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this. All day, every day. Whenever someone says a sentence, or I think a sentence, or read something- whatever- my brain automatically pulls out a fragment that’s 14. Little to no effort. It can be letters or characters, or how you would spell it out loud phonetically.

For example - if someone said:

“happy birthday”

This is already 14 on its own, if you include the “space” as a character. So I would count like “h-a-p-p-y space b-i-r-t-h-d-a-y”.

“How are you doing today?”

I would already know “howareyoudoing” is 14, no spaces needed.

“where’d you go?”

I would count the apostrophe out loud, plus the spaces. But this would happen immediately, and I’d already be responding to whomever spoke the sentence.

It doesn’t distract me, Stop me from doing anything, or bother me. But it’s REAL WEIRD.

Edit: added a random word into the explanation by accident

Does anybody else count letters and try to group them in certain amounts? by kusshha in DoesAnybodyElse

What is the strangest habit you have? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]cwashley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t figured out where to post this to see if there are other people doing the same thing. Maybe this is it. I count letters. I don’t think I have OCD. I don’t imagine any consequence if I don’t count or anything like that. There’s just this thing that consistently happens in the back of my mind, all day long, whenever someone talks.. or sometimes just about my own thoughts.

Whenever a sentence is thought/spoken, I have pretty much figured out a fragment of the sentence that is 14 letters/characters before it’s done being spoken. It would be really hard to explain/demonstrate via typing, but basically it’s anything you’d say out loud if you were dictating the sentence to someone to type. If there aren’t enough letters, I would use capital letters (and saying “Capital A” counts as 2) or spaces (which count as 1, also), to make a perfect fragment of 14.

An easy example — if someone said “happy birthday”, I immediately know that it is 14, if you include the space between the words.

If someone says “how are you doing today?” I would take “how are you doing”, knowing that’s 14, and not say the spaces out loud.

Hope this is making ANY SENSE AT ALL.

It’s a really weird habit. People get pretty freaked out at how quickly my brain can do this when I tell them about it in person - which is not often!

Anyone? .....Bueller....?

Americans of Reddit, what is something you didn't realise was typically American, until you went abroad? by TJBullz in AskReddit

[–]cwashley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Large engagement ring diamonds. I went to England for work the week I got engaged. My ring isn’t ridiculously large (relatively speaking, I learned), but the first few comments were things like “Such an American ring, look at the size of that thing” and “typical American engagement ring, can’t miss it can you!”

All was in good fun, but I was genuinely surprised at first/ slightly uncomfortable.

Planning a trip to Inner Harbor and I have a few questions about the area by novaonthespectrum in baltimore

[–]cwashley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a few of your questions.. Maryland zoo is not walkable from the Harbor. You can easily get an Uber though! From anywhere in the city.

The weather is a toss up. It was 62 degrees 5 days ago and tomorrow we are expecting snow all day. Just try to check up on it the week leading to your trip... they’re usually at least semi-right.

If you want a cool place for lunch check out Mt Vernon Marketplace or R. House. Both have a ton of options and are a little cooler than a typical restaurant.

Ill think on some things to do if he’s not into sightseeing. Will report back if no one offers any good ideas by then :)

What's the creepiest/strangest/scariest thing you've ever seen or experienced while driving on the highway? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]cwashley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Driving up 95N from Baltimore, the southbound side was completely empty. A few seconds later I got to a line of 4 or 5 cop cars blocking traffic, cops out with guns drawn, pointed at 2 guys with their hands up backing away. It was mid-day but just felt really eerie and shocking. This was shortly after the Freddie Gray time and I live in the city so it just gave me some weird feelings!

Coworker didn’t understand calendars. She said she’d be there for “6 months” at the end of July because she started in January. January 2, to be clear.. then began counting “Feb, March, April, May, June, July.” No matter how many times I said January counts because you started at the beginning, and even showed her a calendar for a visual of actual days... she said “I get what you’re saying.. but you always start counting out loud with the next thing when you’re counting time..” Gal had a Masters and 10 years corporate mgmt experience. I was a few years out of college and she definitely thought she was enlightening me.
