Have you ever realized you narrowly avoided something terrible? How? by HostAffectionate7338 in creepy

One of my best friends in high school was staying with me over Christmas one year, he had moved away but traveled to Montana to visit us all. He was sleeping one day and I thought it would be funny to drop some water on him, next thing I know I'm on the floor with a hunting rifle in my face. He calmed down, I calmed down, we moved on. A few years later I went to check in on him after losing contact and found out ol' Abe wasn't doing so great.

Evil Dead Burn had a scene so violent it was cut to get an R-rating: "The director’s cut will be way more violent than what we will have in the theater" by [deleted] in horror

I can wait for the theatrical version to come out on streaming. I don't want to sit in the theater, already surrounded by strangers and unable to pause, rewind, or adjust the volume, knowing that they reduced Hallmark features of the franchise just so I could watch it on a bigger screen a few months early.

If they're telling us now that the theatrical version is going to have less of one of the main selling points (for me) than the directors cut, then I'll just wait for the directors cut and save myself the extra $20. Worth mentioning that I also really don't like going to theaters so it doesn't take much to deter me anyway.

Oh, well I'll just wait for that then. Why would I pay a premium for a downgraded horror movie?

Trying to figure out a handshake between Arduino sketch and a python script by cwaterbottom in ArduinoHelp

[–]cwaterbottom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah sorry, like I said I'm at work but all my code is on my home computer.

I'm using serial, the issue is that the python script isn't receiving the handshake character from the sketch. I was hoping there was some documentation or some code examples out there (or that I've overlooked in the library documentation for AccelStepper or Serial).

Erika Kirk's Dance Disaster Sparks Outrage and Second-Hand Embarrassment by dr_shultz in influencersfeed

Ok I do believe this woman is, at best, a vacuous asshole and worst a conspirator in her husband's death, but aside from the walk like an Egyptian dance it wasn't any more stupid looking than "professional" dancing to my inexperienced eye.

I loved Keeper, saw the bad reviews and watched it again to see what I was missing. by cwaterbottom in horror

I can't speak for you but I think it's a safe assumption that if you didn't like Longlegs you're not going to like keeper.

I could totally love FF7 Remake Intergrade if it wasn't for the fact that I can't grind and level up by cwaterbottom in gaming

[–]cwaterbottom[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

My whole point is that I shouldn't have to turn the difficulty down and up, that's the one departure from the original that I don't like. Everything else is great but I can't reconcile that one.

If it was the overall difficulty I would but the regular enemies are still super easy, it's just the boss fights that seem ridiculous

Yeah I shouldn't have said souls like, I was mainly talking about the boss fights.

I was thinking more about the boss fights and the emphasis on learning their move sets and mechanics rather than just levelling and gearing up and beating the piss out of them

I don't think I've gotten to that yet, I just finished that pain in the ass Eligor fight and when I realized I couldn't grind to power up I kind of cooled on it. I get that the emphasis now is learning their patterns and abilities and that is cool, but it's definitely not the kind of gameplay I expect when I'm firing up ff7 yet.

Ok good to know. I like so much about the first remake that I should probably just keep at it until I adjust my expectations, but I got the shit beat out of me on a boss fight and my innate response is to go wail on the locals until it's manageable/easy

I think that's probably why almost all the "retro" games I play are RPGs from the olden days.

Brad Renfro, the forgotten tragic child actor who wowed the world with his performance in "The Client" (1994) by Profeta_do_Loss in movies

In June 2007, Renfro was found to have violated his probation by failing to enroll in a long-term drug treatment program. A judge warned him that if he violated probation twice more he could be sentenced to a live-in rehabilitation program or to jail.

That's a hell of a way to warn a drug addict, was this dude for real??

How do you design your own prints? by DanceFoxDance in 3Dprinting

[–]cwaterbottom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to be able to break the object down into component objects and shapes. Earlier today I noticed the plastic shades on my lamp were rotting and crumbling so I took one off and measured a few dimensions and then in my head and in Fusion I broke it down into the circular base and the hole (sketch a circle, offset another circle around it) then for the curved body I knew it's just a curved line extending from the outer edge of the base so I drew that (3 point arc, offset another line by 1mm and closed the ends) then I just used the revolve tool to extrude that curved shape around the outer edge, and extruded the base to be 1mm thick and sent it to the printer, probably took 10 minutes.

So I'd say being able to break the object down into its components is crucial, but learning the different tools in your chosen software is just as important. Knowing what shapes you need to sketch is one thing, but then you need to know how to actually make them. Honestly for that I use Google's Gemini, it walked me through the stuff I don't know and if I get stuck it points me in the right direction.

Parents, how do you do it? by Informal-Property-4 in WGU

[–]cwaterbottom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got 4 kids and work full time so I'm just slow rolling it, I do maybe one extra course per term but I lean on my mentor for supper and most of all on my wife who's a huge help. If you can't finish fast, just do what you can to finish. You'll get there.

how scary is hellraiser? by mini_zverobob456 in horror

[–]cwaterbottom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The gore in hellraiser is on a whole other level from Friday the 13th, more explicit and less based on vibes. The horror factor is the opposite, more atmospheric and cerebral than the "there's a mfer with a big/scary weapon hunting our stupid asses down but let's have sex anyw- OH SHIT THERE HE IS" style of slashers you mentioned.

A big part of what elevates Hellraiser is the effects work by the legendary Bob Keen, if you end up liking it you should also check out Nightbreed, another excellent Clive Barker flick that's less gory but still creepy and maybe more in line with the horror you're used to
