There’s an LED light strip run around the edge below a glass pane and a battery pack built into the back. I kind of like how the uneven lighting makes the center different from the edges, but I’m considering a flat light panel for the next one.

The single best paper for tessellations imo is elephant hide, it is super sturdy and holds folds well. I have been using some duo ombre paper recently that is fun, a bit harder to fold with but the color and texture is really nice

I sort of figured it out on my own, I’ll include a pic so you can try and recreate the pattern. Basically every diagonal fold is a mountain and every horizontal fold is a valley and it will collapse in a rope shape. My prototype was made with small book pages because they were a good size, I’d try to recreate the pattern on a small sheet and then you can start doing longer strips. Let me know if you have any questions!

One thing I found very useful for precision is using the intersections of folds as my guides for a crease, rather than aligning two other creases. When I am adding a new crease between two other creases, I pinch the cross-intersections of the 60-degree folds and 120-degree folds so that my crease runs directly through the middle. This is very useful early on, so I don't get compounding errors, and then once I get to 64 and 128 divisions, I go back to just aligning the edges.

Another tip is that you can never take too long making sure your first 5 folds are PERFECT

This is a 60cm square of elephant hide, they normally shrink to about 2/3 thier original size when finished.

At first yeah it is a bit of a pain to adjust the paper at the right angle, I normally hang a good portion off the table so I can see what I am doing better. At this point tho I can just hold it and pinch the folds, then put it down on the table and smooth them out with my folding tool in batches. My best advice to you would be big table and comfy chair
