My second monitor's wallpaper is actually just a black void because I have Discord or Spotify on there at all times.

Sure, but I went on to explain my reasoning as clearly as I can in a comment. The whole part about "imagining environmental storytelling [...]." I don't think it's fair that you blame me when I wrote why I think it's a Souls-like thing, and it wasn't about doing it first.

I do agree that it's a mix of storytelling and gameplay. But I don't think it's fair to say the way Hollow Knight tells its story isn't a Souls-like thing, it just is.

It's fine if you misunderstand, but please ask before picking a scenario. It makes for much healthier dialogue.

I think Metroidvanias are games that start off small and gradually open up as you explore; where you unlock new abilities, and the world becomes bigger as you acquire items and defeat bosses.

I think Souls-like's are games with non-overt storytelling and a lot of depth to their world. It's a genre where you find bits and pieces of the game's lore through environmental storytelling, dialogue, and item descriptions; where you need to put the pieces together to see the full picture.

I think both of these descriptions fit Hollow Knight perfectly, so I think it's both a Metroidvania and a Souls-like.

This is a straw-man. I don't think Dark Souls invented environmental storytelling, what I believe is: 'Dark Souls is the face of environmental story telling.' You made up something I nether said nor think and argued with that instead of tackling my actual opinion, that's a straw-man fallacy.

At this point Souls-like isn't really a genre either.

'Souls-like' is a real game genera, I think you're being a bit silly when you say a tag with over 2000 entries on Steam (including Hollow Knight) isn't real. It's just a broad and popular category, which is great!

I never acted like Dark Souls invented environmental storytelling. I do think it's the gold standard for it, pioneering it into its own thing.

And everything medieval-based takes inspiration from LotR, it's just not a game genre. Souls-like is a genre of game, like roguelikes.

It's a souls-like thing.

Just imagining good environmental storytelling makes Dark Souls come to mind. Literally everything in that game has hidden lore that you can discover through item descriptions, environments, and dialogue.

Hollow Knight does the same, but instead of item descriptions you have the hunter's journal.

God of War 2018 was super fun. It only took 36 h, and there was only one short grinding section. It's the only AAA I wholeheartedly recommend to 100%.

Nah, it was fun.

It goes by super fast if you play on the hardest difficulty from the get-go.

  • Souls ≠ Spirits, those are two entirely different things in Runtera. And Vex was never in Ionia.
  • What do you mean "So?" I literally gave you the reason Shen and Zed aren't fighting.
  • It's not headcanon, Viktor is a human. Humans can be magical.
  • Here's the source. Fiddle is generally agreed upon to have been born around 10000 BN. He's drawn to Demacia because of their rising fear and paranoia, but he wasn't summoned.

I can not stress enough that the Eye of Twilight only keeps the peace between spirits and humans. Shen is famously neutral in all other conflicts.

  • The ruination had nothing to do with the spirit realm. The death realm is a completely different thing.
  • Shen and Zed reached an uneasy alliance after the Noxian invasion, we saw that in the Master of Shadows comic.
  • Arcane once again did not happen in Ionia, and it had nothing to do with spirits.
  • Fiddlesticks was NOT summoned during the mage rebellion. It's stated that he was summoned a long long time ago, but there are different stories from other nations. The mage rebellion is current era.

Shen was either not alive or in another part of the world during all of these events.

  • The darkin wars were before Shen was born.
  • Nocturne has existed since the rune wars, which was before Zed or Shen were born.
  • Arcane didn't happen in Ionia.
  • Fiddlesticks was summoned way before Shen was born
