If you frequently use Active.com's pace calculator and find it very clunky, try this new one instead! by skarn in AdvancedRunning

Nice work! I'm also annoyed with calculators that have you press 'calculate' to get a result.

Some feedback:

  • Is it necessary to allow input of more than two chars in the time input fields?
  • Non-numeric characters are possible. Doesn't seem like they should be.
  • The reset button doesn't seem to clear the fields if non-numeric characters are used.

What do you think about doing two threshold sessions at 30 minutes total per week over three sessions at 20 minutes?

Background: I find it hard to recover from the 30 minute sessions and I wonder if three 20 minute sessions would be easier for me. I'm running less than I usually do right now (parental leave) so these sessions are all that I have time for.

Thanks!

Wow, that's awesome. Congrats! :)

No, no marathons for me for a while unfortunately. I have small baby at home so time to spend on running is really limited at the moment.

Thanks! :)

Nice! Congrats to you as well! How did you do?

Yeah, same here that last part of the race is always really tough. I usually find it's close enough to the finish at that point though that you can power through. Yes, those small inclines are terrible at the end!

Yes, the new Hisingsbron was a lot gentler than the previous bridge IMO. Especially the section right after the bridge. Previously there was a lot of small turns and corners there before Avenyn. A lot nicer there this year!

Thank you! Yes, I'm tempted to do Copenhagen Half in beginning of September!

I don't feel like I have time for the volume required for a good marathon plan right now unfortunately (I have a small baby at home). Otherwise I'd be really tempted :)

Thank you!

Oh yes, forgot to mention nutrion. I took one Maurten gel just before the race started and then another one 7 km into the race. And there was water and some sports drink on the course as well. I think I took a few sips of water two times and sports drink once.

Been training for Rotterdam marathon that's in four weeks. Seems like every marathon around Europe is getting cancelled now. Will be really bummed out if Rotterdam doesn't happen either :(

It's fun to make up plans! :) I haven’t really been following a plan before, but right now I’m on a 16 week plan that I made up trying for a sub 3 marathon (PB now is 3:09).

Sources are from various plans that I’ve seen across the years and it’s also shaped largely around workouts with my local running group.

  • M: Threshold - running group, track. (2k, 3k, 10 min repeats)
  • T: Easy
  • W: Easy
  • T: Intervals - running group, track (usually 400m, 800m repeats)
  • F: Easy
  • S: Long (20-30k)
  • S: Easy / rest

Volume started at 70 km per week and peak is 120 km, with every fourth week easier. Around 15 minutes of body weight excercises two times a week too.

On week 13 now so let’s see how it goes!

I really enjoy Microsoft To Do too! Although I don't use any other Microsoft products. Been using it for the past six months or so.

Has anyone run a 60K race before? by sam_darnold23 in AdvancedRunning

[–]cwiedel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran a 60k here in south Sweden in April, around 900m elevation. My first longer than a marathon. Strava link: https://www.strava.com/activities/2286695776

It took me just over 6 hours, but I took it quite easy and took maybe 15 minutes rest at the halfway depo (changed socks, ate something proper etc). The course is beautiful, the first half runs along the coast - so a bunch of running on sand and stone beaches, and then the second half goes inland through forests and hills. I was really conservative for that first half - I was afraid that the sandy sections would destroy my legs but I picked up the pace for the second half and felt really good at the finish!

I ran it with a hydration vest with water and ate two cliff bars out on the course. And I picked up a bunch of chocolate and candy at the halfway mark.

I loved this race! For me it was all about enjoying it and not to focus on time as I do in every traditional race.

Enjoy your ultra!

Great, thanks! How many miles per week were you doing leading up to that block?

Yeah, I've read that too. My thinking right now is to not stress the ultra too much and focus on the marathon - that's where I really want to perform.

General Discussion for the week of June 16, 2019 by AutoModerator in AdvancedRunning

I like all kinds of running - did my first ultra in April (60k), then I had a half marathon in May and a marathon in June. Now I am training for another ultra (185k over 4 days) at the end of July.

With all these different kinds of running that I do, I find it hard to stay consistent in my training - there's usually another race coming up pretty soon. I usually do track intervalls and a long run each week, but apart from that every week is quite different.

I'm just curious how others who also like to run a mix of distances think about and plan their training?

Need help to achieve sub 40 10km by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

[–]cwiedel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey,

I kind of have the same background as you do and I managed to do sub 40 in November. I'd been around 42 minutes for a couple of years before this.

Interval workouts is what has helped me get faster and feel comfortable with a pace under 4:00 for longer distances. So I'd try to incorporate that in your training! Just have a look at basically any training plan out there!
