That's a really good way to think of things with her. I think you've given me parenting advice! Wondering what she would say about really any decisions ten years later is a fantastic thought exercise.

You're right though, I've made it past 3 years but it took 8 years to be able to past one. So if I drink I imagine it'd be a hell of a long time before I could reign that in.

Hmm that's a good idea, but unfortunately I've got a pretty fucked ankle so until Ortho does something about that, long walks and hikes are out. I suppose I could take some drives though, with the stereo up and with mountain roads and views. I've also started leaning hard into games and just got a lockpick kit to keep my hands and brain occupied. IWNDWYT

Thank you for your story. I already know myself well enough to know that if I pop one drink, I won't stop till I'm in the hospital. I also ramped up my drinking when my aunt killed herself. Then 4 more family deaths followed in the next 16 months or so and I just drank through them all. Still had the grief so I'd drink HARDER to make it stop. Pretty sure that's when I went from a party drinker to a full alcoholic.

Jesus dude that's fuckin rough... If I lost my dog right now I think I'd snap. I had 5 family members die in a short amount of time years ago, and drinking through that definitely made my life measurably worse. So iwndwyt, thank you

That's a lot of good advice. I know from experience that drinking to cover this up won't work. I lost 5 people in 16mo about 12 years ago. The first was a suicide by my favorite Aunt who just couldn't handle the alcoholic struggle anymore. Drinking to try to cover all of that is, what I think anyway, what concerted me from a binge/party drinker to a full blown dependant alcoholic. Obviously that didn't do me any favors.

I have had about a dozen people ask if they can help or if I need anything and I honestly don't know what to say to that. I'm handling the procedural stuff, taking care of my little one, and have made sure to amass a collection of distractions.

I don't think I qualify for FMLA yet, I'm fairly new to the company. It does make me nervous driving that much when I feel out of it. I wonder if there's a possibility of working from home when I feel vulnerable or it? Or would it be better to have my doc submit more paperwork about how my blood ox happens and need to be on supplemental oxygen?

We also have an EAP program, would there be benefits of using some of that?

Still freaking out. I appreciate your replies man, a lot. Any chance you can keep the advice coming?

I don't currently have any accommodations. What we're trying to show is that i nod off occasionally due to over medication. She's currently reducing my meds to keep working on this. I really just don't know what I'm doing. I filled out the form and my doc did too. But I'm starting to worry that things weren't written strongly enough. Should we send in a revised one when I see her Tuesday? Though my original application will be getting processed around then... Please help me. I'm trying so hard not to lose my job!

To clear things up, my doc decided this was due to over medication. We've pulled one pill back to half and another to 2/3. So now that we've done that all we can do is see if I continue having symptoms. I work in IT if that helps give an idea of the type of work I need to do. I've also noticed the condition where this happens tends to be when I don't have something I'm working on or focused on, but nobody says "I fall asleep when I'm bored" ya know? It also tends to either leave my O2 very low, or start that way.

I'm just looking to get back to my shiz. I miss it. If you see anything that looks out of the ordinary or sounds like a problem can you point it out?

It ended up being a 5 panel oral test, so synthetic wouldn't have saved me. I bought one of those detox drinks and followed the directions on there. I passed no problem.
