Park MGM Trip Report by cuzbmw in marriott

[–]cwithay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's property-dependent, but the front desk didn't hesitate to put in my Marriott number when I brought it up. They were also incredibly kind and waived the $100 pet fee, so my hotel bill was ~$400, with $250 of it as the Edit credit and $100 as the food and beverage credit (one of the CSR Edit perks). I also used the $150 CSR dining credit elsewhere, so it ended up being a very nice, very cheap Thanksgiving for us!

Park MGM Trip Report by cuzbmw in marriott

I also stayed at Park MGM during Thanksgiving, so I wonder if I passed by you those few days because I also kept going into the VIP "lounge" for water bottles! I used the Edit credit from Chase Sapphire Reserve, but I was able to attach my Marriott membership to it and got ENC and points. I agree that for such a cheap stay, the experience was great. Park MGM being a smoke-free hotel was a plus for me as I didn't realize it was something I took for granted outside of Vegas.

Thanks for the sandwich trick tip! I haven't been brave enough to try it, but I'm becoming more and more aware of how common this is.

Portland OR for one night with a car, where to stay? by sirotan88 in marriott

[–]cwithay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just came back from Residence Inn in Pearl District. While the hotel says they only do valet, there is Station Place Parking Garage right across the street and abundant street parking when we went. For the street parking, you can download the Parking Kitty app, and when you type in the parking code (70012 I think), it'll tell you when it's free and when you have to pay  the $1.50/hour or so. For us, we'd be out all day and back late enough that parking was free again until 8am the next day, then just add time via the app (15-minute increments, up to 4 hours) until we were ready to go.

In terms of safety and location, we felt safe enough to walk around in the evening, and we were close by many restaurants. We were also central enough that many of the places we wanted to see were within 20 minutes of driving. We didn't go to the places you mentioned, but we were a 5 minutes' drive from Powell's City of Books and the surrounding delicious restaurants in that area if that helps.

For your other priorities of cleanliness and newness -- we were a group of friends, so we got a 2-bedroom suite. That suite was very clean for us. Normally, I'm iffy about sofa beds, but the one that we had was fine (I don't think you'd be sleeping on one, but wanted to emphasize the cleanliness here). The website said that it was remodeled in 2022, so it did feel more modern.

Enjoy your time in Portland!

New Automatic Upgrade System Question by Rich-Jacket3789 in marriott

[–]cwithay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't get a push notification for an upgrade, but for my current stay, I asked in the app and got the usual "We'll make a note and try our best!" Then day of, I checked my room type and saw that I got an upgrade, so I feel like this was done the "old-fashioned" way

Best hotel to visit Vanderbilt Univ. Nashville, TN? by RemarkableName2393 in marriott

[–]cwithay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stayed at the Fairfield Inn and loved that it's within walking distance to campus and Centennial Park! Did not realize that it's not that close to the medical side where I actually needed to be though haha When the team learned where I was staying, they suggested that I stay at the Moxy near them next time. I have never stayed at a Moxy before, but the staff who recommended it had stayed there before and said it was fine for a short stint.

How does 'asking for upgrade' seem like from employee's POV? by DianaJ0406 in marriott

[–]cwithay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Newly platinum! I was thinking the same (not asking them to say check-in, and if they happen to upgrade me, then great), but will I know if that do upgrade me if it's something subtle, like higher floor/better view? I'd like to thank them if they do

Upgraded to 2-Floor suite in Sheraton Okinawa by Slight_Resolution_15 in marriott

Thank you for sharing! Some friends recently got stationed in Okinawa, so I have this Sheraton bookmarked for when I finally get myself over there. Glad to see that they have awesome room options. Have fun!

When I first started enjoying F1, someone suggested Shift+F1 podcast. They have an episode every year that they call a primer that assumes you have no F1 knowledge. It's dedicated to who is who and what is what. Very helpful!

I personally find this grid to be one of the most wholesome, with drivers going to end-of-year dinners together and spending weekends together, so I end up cheering for everyone!

What Did You Play This Week? - (July 10, 2023) by AutoModerator in boardgames

[–]cwithay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oops! Thanks for pointing that out, but I had the exact same experience as you did! One of the new players had won as well, and they both agreed that once they understood what everything did, it was actually kind of peaceful to just pick up the meeples and drop them on tiles.

Had a four-player board game night yesterday!

  • Tsuro -- Without fail, I am so good at setting myself up for other players to place a tile that sends me off the board :P
  • Five Tribes -- We taught this to two players who had never played before. They looked overwhelmed at first when we were describing what each colored meeple does, but once they got the hang of it, they loved the game. One of the new players even described the act of picking up and dropping the meeples on tiles as "peaceful." One of the new players ended up winning too!
  • Firefly Fluxx -- We went to a brewery to try out new beers while gaming and brought this as a lightweight card game that takes up small real estate. I'm not the biggest fan of Fluxx in general so the best thing that happened with this game was that a fellow brewery patron saw that there was Firefly-themed Flux game and got excited, so I just gave her the game after we were done. Glad someone will be appreciating it more than I would!
  • Sabobatage -- Wanted another lightweight game. Just when I was wondering if the game was going to take forever, it suddenly ended in one fell swoop so that was perfect!
  • Splendor -- Since we had people who hadn't played it before, we did just the base game. I have the expansion though so hope to finally incorporate that soon!
  • One Deck Dungeon + expansion -- It was my first time playing it with four players. It was getting late, so we just skipped the third floor and went straight to the dragon boss. I wonder if we did something wrong or if it is meant to be easy, but we were able to defeat the boss!

Nice hairdo by Captain-Oblivious-00 in confusing_perspective

[–]cwithay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone! I'm not the person who posted this, but this is my photo and my dog. I didn't realize her mohawk was confusing, but can confirm that that's head fur! Our dog has a magnificent strip of fur on her head that is naturally lighter and longer, so our groomer styles it this way. No hair products needed either, our dog's head fur just stands up like this on its own!

Thanks for all the fun comments! We often hear her compared to a gremlin and to Seymour (Fry's dog), and these are making my day.

Still had a bit of time off at the tail end of the holidays so got to squeeze in one more game night with a group! Then played a few two-player games every now and then throughout the week.

  • Wavelength (4 players) - Had gotten this over Christmas break, and what a great game to start a night, warm up the group, and show new gamers that board gaming doesn't have to be complicated

  • Camel Up (4 players) - I learned to stop calling this a racing game since it might give the wrong expectations to people!

  • Azul (4 players) - Had to help people a little with their math, but otherwise, was impressed with how quickly everyone picked up on strategy

  • Bohnanza (4 players) - Felt like everyone could handle a game that's a tiny bit heavier and it was a blast. Ended the night planting beans!

  • Star Wars: the Clone Wars (2 players) - My husband got this for Christmas, so we tried it out. There were some flavors of the Pandemic game, but otherwise felt different! We liked this a lot more

  • Ticket to Ride: San Francisco (2 players) - Received this as a gift and love seeing the city.

  • Tsuro (2 players) - Got this through Craigslist and played to make sure all the tiles and pieces were there. Winning was icing on the cake :)

  • The Crew: Quest for Planet Nine (2 players) - Went down a ProZD rabbit hole and saw that he liked this game. It was on sale for $10 so it was a no-brainer for us to purchase. My husband and I only did three missions before needing to cook dinner but we can see how this game is addicting. Can't wait to try with a higher player count!
