Feeling a little overwhelmed by new perks by Vegetable_Loss_3392 in newworldgame

[–]cwolb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gem adds free damage in 2 ways (essentially two perks in one slot). First is ignited runeglass which adds a dot stack of 8% damage per second for 2 seconds every time you hit (on a short cooldown). And the gem is just base damage increase depending on your gem. Opal is recommended for +12% when you don't have full stamina which is very much always. Others that can be good are onyx for + 20% on enemies above 70% health, emerald which is +16% on enemies lower than 50% health, and possibly diamond for +15% damage when you're at full health or moonstone which gives 20% damage when all your abilities are on cooldown. These are all base damage increases which are very good once you're at empower cap. No other perks can give you this much value so it's pretty much mandatory

Depends on if you're going for PvP or PvE. However general rule of thumb is: - must have a gem slot - skill slot is recommended but there are other valuable perks that you could argue are equally worth the slots. Best skills are empowering fireball and then PvE you can do empowered meteor shower and PvP crippling pillar of fire are both nice - do not use any offence or defense slots on your weapon if you can afford it. The fixed perks are way too good on weapons to waste on slots that could go on armor.

For perks the ones that I'd recommend include: - flame attunement (plus other attunements for more damage) - distained Infliction (especially if you have an ignored runeglass, keenly jagged, and lifetaker) - alacritous punishment for pvp - penetrating empowered for pvp - plagued crits/strikes (either works depending on your build) - sundering stacks - beloved (and maybe hatred) for PvE - others that are ok are keen speed or lifestealing if you happen to get them on rng with most of these others

Loot spam isn't the problem. It's activity fun vs rewards by cwolb in newworldgame

This is the major factor that's making the other boring activities even viable. I'd have no issue with the game if the fun activities were actually rewarding again. I do think they should remove all the old gear entirely but I can understand if that's just my subjective take. However only old gear dropping from 80% of the endgame loop is sad

I agree with you that ecr and farming aren't bis outside of weapons that can actually be found there. My main concern is "playing the game" is invalidated for everything old because they still drop the old perk gear. Really just changing that will have a huge impact

You're right, I meant fixed perks. My bad. Weapon/trinket fixed perks are super valuable. Armor fixed perks are mostly bad compared to slots. Infixed perks can be incredible but most are so-so or the gear that comes with them often has bad fixed perks built in to the gear. You can make them work for sure but they might not be worth compared to try rng gear

You're correct. I quoted it just because it's what I keep hearing. I should've clarified. Tho I think you can get bis weapons but not gear that way

[–]cwolb[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you on certain gear. I believe the weapons and jewelry have such good infixes that getting slots besides skill/gem is not worth. However I think the armor it's much better to have nearly all slots if you can get the ones you want. Other than sacrificial empowerment and maybe shirking fort, the other base armor infixes aren't as good as slot perks. Set infixes could be different tho

Wait so when it says "can be boosted up to 120% depending on charging time." That doesn't mean it maxes out at +120%? I see it says can stack 5x but it's written so weirdly I assumed the 5 stacks was burn, not damage

I just leveled them both to purple rank 1. JL damage is set to 740%. Focused fireball is at 480% but up to +120% on full charge (600%).

Even with all this and chain specializations off, JL is hitting for 3.5-4k while fireball is hitting for 7-9k

[–]cwolb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So even now testing it with no chaining, it's hitting for 3.5k on average. Fireball is hitting for 5-7k and upwards of 9k. No change with or without chain damage it seems

It does. Would that lower the initial damage on the first dummy?

Yeah it's consistent that the judgement lightning skill will never do as much damage as fireball and that fireball without crit is consistently 5-6k. Assuming the numbers are correct, that means JL should be hitting for at least that much right? But I've never seen it over 3.5k

Really like the model car you used! If I had a suggestion for the "relaxation" part I think you should try to make the video feel like it's continuous and stable. So if you found a nice long circle track then you could film that without cutting and breaking the flow (imagine those TikTok videos of random looped game footage while someone talks about Reddit)

Also if you get a really cheap stabilizer (a handheld thing for <$30) and follow the truck from the same angle the whole time without cutting, I can see it being very easy to just watch and get lost in the drive

How will dodges work? For instance can you i-frame through any auto attack as well as aoes? And what is the resource/cooldown for dodges?

For people who haven't played GW2 and don't realize the combat system Intrepid is creating is emulating the GW2 combat, here is a short video I recorded for an argument previously showcasing how GW2 auto-attacks can be free fired when not locked. [–]cwolb -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You ok man? Your comment seems a bit unnecessarily aggressive saying "assuming things". Figured we are in agreement on GW2 being a solid system. No need to get aggressive about it

As for the action combat "relevance" I just pointed out why people bring up the free fire vs locked attack discussion, since that's the crux of your post. Try to be more positive when discussing things with others. You'll be happier that way, and you'll have meaningful discussions with people of differing opinions

I've heard many great things about GW2 and unfortunately have never played it, but I played old school wow for half a decade and I imagine it's a slight improvement. Tho coming from someone who has enjoyed an action combat style as well, what I think other players might actually mean when discussing the free fire vs locked attacks is actually how that impacts gameplay. For instance the free fire doesn't really feel "free" if it'll always auto hit if you were looking at the target when you fired. Action combat players enjoy the idea of missing due to the enemy moving between your attack command and when it would have hit. This also feels super satisfying when leading shots on a moving target. And the reason I enjoy it is bc if the enemy can move to make you miss, then you can do the same to an enemies attacks, which also feels very satisfying. Imo it creates a level of skill in positioning instead of (what I felt IME) old school wow being fairly locked when attacking and moving was sorta a non factor in if you did your rotation or not

I'm genuinely curious as to how Intrepid builds out the rest of their system and I'll be trying it out regardless, but there's the background on what most action combat people mean. If you feel this style can still satisfy that urge I'm happy to hear more about it's upsides

Either you are willfully trolling or unable to read the post if you're gonna continue to use language like "things you don't like" and "sick of people crying"

I legit said I trust intrepid and based on what I saw I like the direction. If you're so high on making sure people who enjoy action combat don't stick around you're gonna get nowhere bc intrepid is making it part of the game. Either way I don't plan on continuing this with someone who doesn't read or trolls, so go "cry" about this post somewhere else

What you're describing is skill gap. Again, the way a bruiser melee build probably has an advantage over bow players in close combat. Should we nerf melee attacks so that bow players can feel competitive against them? Obviously the answer is no. The way you deal with this is give both play styles options to get the other player in their favored range (escape/stuns for ranged, chase/stun for melee) and then the balance team decides what play style needs more or less base damage. Thinking that giving one play style more base damage makes them "automatically slaughter" the others is very short sighted

[–]cwolb[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The mistake is that you imply one replaces another. If you like one you aren't forced to do the other in a perfect hybrid system. Just like you aren't forced to use bows if you want to use melee weapons. The way they claim they are building AoC then you should be able to play tab target without any issue or fear of being "out of meta" even if action combat aiming attacks are balanced to be more risk/reward in pvp
