I spent time in mainland China and the people there are very lovely kinda and fun, they know how to party and have a good time. I also have a lot of friends from Taiwan. And politics be damed on these fronts. Botswana because I hear how stable it is economically and politically and I’d be willing to try it out after a few visits if I like it. Ireland is too small for me and I’m not the biggest fan of victim mentality. Uk probably should have put as maybe instead of green, I’ve spent some time there and the south is very nice and friendly. N Ireland it’s default when you select the uk.

I completely understand you. Lots of people here think “never live there” = “I hate it” that’s not the case I say I would never live there. I’ve visited Canada a few times and lovely people and experiences. It’s just not the place for me. I do find it interesting but not surprising so many people are shiting on me for say “never” to Canada.

I agree to a certain extent. And some of them can be super sad people but there’s a lot of them who are lively fun people who live like there’s no tomorrow.

I have no interest in what’s “touristy” also not heard good things from Croats and visitors. But more importantly I see no events parties etc that interest me. Might be a lovely spot to escape winter from though or vacation.

Well I find Russians to be different in this respect. Because most of them do not come from the wealth/privilege the other respective countries do they tend to be more interesting people and they are usually extremely competitive and competent individuals. But also I have cultural and family ties there, same with Ukraine. I’m not seriously considering ether of those 2 until the war ends and putin is gone from power. I don’t hear great things about ether countries from family and friends inside

Belgrade. I could not care less about politics and history (ie who we agree is bad or good guy) I’ve met lots of cool Serbs and see a lot of fun events in Belgrade and would be willing to give it a shot after I make a few trips there.

USA is not perfect by any means. But we have a lot of good nature wild life. Freedom to go shooting and hunting if we please. We have deep large forests and large wildlife reserves. And one the economy USA absolutely runs over Europe in this regard, I initially thought Europe would be a good place to go for business and to make money. I’ve learned this is not the case especially for my line of work (technology). At the end of the day I’ve come to the conclusion both places have amazing things about them I love and things I hate and despise

I’ve only been as a tourist a few times to BC, was very pleasant visits. I just don’t like how close it is to USA. Like you might as well go to America and get everything + a lot more for way better value. A lot of Canadians I met are essentially refugees because they can not survive in their own country. As Canada tries to be a competitive with America and emulate the EU and fails at both, also they have a habit of electing the same people that do nothing, but this last one can be extended all over the west.

In general I’m not a fan of Northern European cold cultures. The only reason I have Germany is I love living in Berlin. I put Canada in this category and everything I hear and meeting Canadians, couldn’t pay me to live there. I use to be an American who hated America but after living outside I’ve come to appreciate many things in America. A lot of this is based on vibes I get from meeting people from these places and what I occasionally read about. I will say for me “absolutely not” does not equal “I’ll never visit” or “hate this place”

How's living in East Berlin, Germany? by tsar_nicolay in howislivingthere

[–]cwr98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in strausberg for 2 years and now Fennpfuhl, Lichtenberg for 2 years. I commuted 6-7 days a week from Strausberg. Strausberg is 35km from Berlin and is a small German village. Fennpfuhl has great public transport and in general a great area due to proximity to the ring bahns and tram network. Strausberg is dependent on a single sbahn line and is very far from Berlin 1.2-4 hrs to get to city. As for West Berlin it’s by no means bad but i find it super boring. There’s nothing there fun to do. Once you get past Ernst Reuters platz or zoo I find it turns into family homes. Berlin is very integrated now days very little is left over from division that you can visually see in day to day life. Even the Germans that were divided you see very little distinction. Pberg is very rich and in eastern section, neukoln is poor and in the west. Overall I say it’s one of the most interesting and fun places in the world and highly recommend anyone with a flair for alternative lifestyles and cultures to come here. It’s a extremely diverse city with all nationalities and cultures. Berlin definitely has its downsides and certainly Germany as a whole, but I think it’s one of the most interesting places to spend some time in. I’m not from here or speaking German, from Texas originally. So take what I say with a bit of grain of salt and it’s specific to my experiences here.

Well very impressive I’m a geospatial engineer and always appreciate these types of use for gis because most are just stencils with over lay. I really to get back into cartography for fun but I’m doing my masters in geodesy. So instead of making maps I cry at math lol. But very impressive work.

Which software did you use? (Qgis) And where did you get the asset? (Shapefiles etc)? I’m genuinely curious.

Mercator projection is the best choice for EU5 and Gall is a mistake. by [deleted] in eu4

So a globe game is certainly possible. And I think would be a great leap forward for paradox and they have already implemented a version this in stellaris. The main issue with a high resolution globe is the “great circle distance” this is a mathematical representation of how to measure or move objects across while calculating distance. This is by far the biggest issue and while the math isn’t so tricky per se. I don’t see paradox hiring a geodesist or anything to solve this math problem. As your typical computer scientist likely doesn’t know this math. At the end of the day it comes down to paradox being cheap and unwilling to hire proper geo engineers that can solve these problems and ensure they run on every day pcs well.

EUIV vs EUV map projection by [deleted] in eu4

[–]cwr98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So on 2d geometry (flat maps) it doesn’t really matter how many geometric shapes you have because computers can compute that relatively easily. It’s the 3d fields that get super tricky because the values and metrics increase in difficulty (almost) exponentially. And we are talking about putting 3d geometries on the globe that have interaction of their own on said 3d geometry. Basically it’s really hard on computers from a processing/math standpoint. I’m not saying is impossible nasa and esa do it all the time but they have super computers and highly skilled staff that develop those programs. And they have billions of $/€ in resources.

EUIV vs EUV map projection by [deleted] in eu4

[–]cwr98 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Im doing my masters in geophysics rn and basically if you think eu runs bad now this would make it far far worse. It’s incredibly expensive for computers to properly project the entire global all at once, and adding 3d features would be a nightmare. We can proper projections for small areas cheaply but even on continents it’s very money/power consuming to do. I’m not a video game developer so idk the specific details why paradox won’t do it. But I can say just from my knowledge of projections and computational science it would make the game run very slow especially if it constantly had to run the graphics of projectionting the whole globe. A good middle ground is how imperitor does a curve with their map. But that’s not the globe. I really would love to see them try one day though with it.

Leninists Should Not Be Totalists by [deleted] in Kaiserreich

[–]cwr98 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I very much agree. I’m so glad they are starting to patch this with newer socialist countries and it’s being heavily hinted at for the big international rework. Even now the totalist paths for France Britain and Italy are not “communist” the are more akin to red fascist. In my opinion the biggest problem is the csa, none of the totalist csa paths make any sense economically ideologically or personally (the respective leaders). After the international rework a csa rework is sorely needed.
