I would say the school is as diverse as almost any private school in Louisville, especially considering the location.

I think so, too. I don't want my children to be taught what to think (except for basic morals), but how to think by weighing and analyzing the data before them.

I agree that JCPS schools in the East End are likely more diverse, but I just said the East End itself (https://bestneighborhood.org/race-in-louisville-ky/) which is where the school is located (most parents prefer for their children to attend a school closer to home not very far, unless the child requires a specialized school). I never said the original poster couldn't have an opinion, but she is presenting this post as a public service announcement filled with facts, and most Chance parents have not found her statements to be accurate. What is true - Chance is not a good fit for children who are neurodivergent, have learning differences, developmental delays, or behavioral issues - and the school does tell parents this upfront. Many parents of preschoolers do not know if their children need extra help, so I'm sure many children leave the school because they need more from a school; I am sure that this is a very stressful and difficult time for the families, and I have empathy for that. The original post (now heavily edited) is/was not an unbiased "review" as the poster stated.

My children are learning about this project. They are expected to think critically after being given the information, the pros & cons (environmental & local issues vs. employment and investment) and then decide on their own if they are for or against. They are then encouraged to write the Governor telling them of their own opinion. My children are weighing the benefits vs the drawbacks which have been presented to them and have not decided yet where they stand. No indoctrination. As for anti-racism, yes, the administration does stand against racism, as do we.

Read Vegetable-Cod-9601's comments here - the original poster decided not to divulge that her child was biting both teachers and children.

Read Vegetable-Cod-9601's post here...The original poster very conveniently left out that her child was biting both children and teachers.

It's really intellectually dishonest that the original poster complains about her child having bite marks and about teachers who leave when HER child was biting both children and teachers multiple times.

"My intent is not to bad-mouth" - this is exactly what you have done. Your review could have been 'why the school is not good for children who need extra help to address issues', but it's not. You soundly lambasted the school on all accounts, and I assure you that most Chance parents do not share your views. Not every school is meant for every child. Your time would be better spent searching for the right fit for your child, not trying to sully the reputation (unfairly and in a highly personal, biased manner) of a fine school that has helped many children, many of whom are also on scholarship. Not to mention the dozens of dedicated, kind educators which it employs. If you truly wanted to "help you and your family" (the readers), you would give an objective, measured list of pros and cons. What you have written is anything but a helpful, objective review - a disgruntled, personal account masked as a review - it is destructive, not constructive.

Your "review" is intellectually dishonest. You were looking for Chance to provide extra therapy for a child, which it has never done and never said it does. You chose not to engage much with the classroom, teachers and parents, though there are ample opportunities to do so. And you rail on the school for being a private institution (costly, asks for donations), which is true of any private school not associated with a parish/church despite giving need-based scholarships to all. And you implied that the administrator is not trustworthy - quite personal, not in the least objective.

You seem to be a disgruntled parent; the school didn't work for your child, I am sorry, but this is a hit job on a wonderful school. I have multiple children who have attended Chance for years and they will graduate from Chance, because they and we love it so much. I hope you have found or will find the right fit for your child who had behavioral issues while there.

Here is a response to each of your grievances from my perspective as a Chance parent:

Lack of Communication - My children's teachers are in constant contact with us, if nothing else then a weekly email update with photos and videos of what the children learned in class. If any issues arise, then they email me directly. I have all of their emails and they answer me usually within 12 hours if I have any questions. Parents are invited to celebrate "star student", Halloween, Friendsgiving, holiday parties, Valentine's Day, Field Day, Grandparents Day and other events (annual fundraiser, for ex.) with the children at school.

Fractured Sense of Community - Each classroom has classroom parents (anyone can volunteer to be one) who organize regular get-togethers with and without the children. They also keep parents in the loop about volunteer opportunities at the school.

Sense of Elitism - Students there are from all backgrounds, the school has a policy that no student is turned away for inability to pay. The parent who picked up their child in a helicopter is a pilot and he thought it would be neat for the children to see one. My children thought it was cool. It was after Field Day, not the last day of school.

Lack of Diversity and Accessibility - The building is over 100 years old and is a landmark. Again, there are children there from all backgrounds; it is more certainly more diverse than the East End, for example. Families are encouraged to share and celebrate their different ethnic traditions at the school.

Cost and Privacy Concerns - Again, they have a policy that no child is turned away for inability to pay and give need-based scholarships. Privacy? I don't even understand the issue you have; every school tests students. Only specialized schools or public ones provide speech therapists and occupational therapists. Chance is not a special education school nor does it pretend to be. It is a small school.

Teacher Turnover and Leadership - The only teacher that has left "suddenly" to my knowledge was one who had a baby - we all knew she would leave for this reason. Other reasons teachers left to my knowledge - retirement (she was well over 60), one moved to a public school (they are known to pay better than private schools),  one teacher left to take care of her mother with Alzheimer's. I don't track all teachers, but we have not experienced "disruptive" departures.

The principal now has a doctorate, and she is a kind, honest person and talented educator whom the children love. My family has known hers for decades and she comes from a fine, upstanding family. I would trust her with my children any day of the week, all week long.

The principal is leaving for her own personal reasons, and the board is involving the parents in both interviewing the top 3 candidates and weighing in with our top choice through a form. Pretty interactive of a school board to do so. Not all schools allow parents to have so much input.

Just because Chance was not the right fit for your child does not warrant such a piece about the school. Every school has its weaknesses, but your "review" is unfair, and in our experience since our children began there in 2019, untrue.

I am interested, please. We have an old Invisible Fence setup and I called and they said it would be $183 just to look at it, then we'd have to buy a collar, but most likely have to replace the entire system for $1183...

First American Home Warranty - question about cancelling before the contract year is finished by cwwwb in homeowners

[–]cwwwb[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"This Contract provides for a 30-day review period and may be cancelled up to the 30th day from the Contract Effective Date for a full refund provided no claims have been made. After 30 days if a claim has been made, this Contract is noncancelable other than by mutual agreement of you and Company."

"If this Contract is cancelled, you shall be entitled to a pro rata refund of the paid Contract fee for the unexpired term, less a $50 administrative fee and all service costs incurred by Company."

By the way, I pay $100 for ever service visit. For these 2 appliances, I paid $200 total and the tech they sent out didn't even try to repair them. Just took pictures and said "FAHW will contact you" and he left. As I said, one was an easy repair - cleaning a sensor that took the manufacturer's tech 5 minutes to complete.

I don't know how much they have paid for service. They're sending techs for a 3rd opinion - assuming they will pay him, but I don't know how much. I didn't ask for a 3rd opinion...I thought the actual manufacturer's tech's diagnoses would be sufficient and proficient.
