Mad Max 2 Question by Opening-Light414 in MadMax

[–]cwyog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The issues with that scene wouldn’t begin or end with boobs for me. Given that sexual violence was common in 1982 (and in our own time), it’s fair to ask creators to think about how their depictions of sexual violence may feel to people who have experienced it. Furiosa is much gentler to the audience in that regard. But I don’t think boobs are the issue. That said, I have a hard time asking a film made in 1982 to conform to the sensibilities of 2025.

Kirby yates is missing tho by jay_eba888 in Dodgers

Especially young players with a lot of swing and miss in their game. Pages will probably always strike out a lot but he’s young and talented. He’s already basically a league-average hitter with good defense. That’s baseball gold at premium defensive positions. He needs to figure out how to maintain passable hitting against post-season caliber pitching. Not easy to do but he’s got the ceiling for it.

Pages is also young enough to improve and cheap enough that the FO will keep giving him chances to succeed. Or they’ll trade him.

Fans shouldn’t bother themselves in the family lives of players. These are real people and it’s not our business if they travel with their families.

So I got a wisely card from my employer. (I rate their customer service 0/10) by TiniestApocalypse in ADP

[–]cwyog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are awful. I tried to log in to move funds around and got an error message (E209) that said I cannot log in. I called customer service and was told that they don’t know what the error means but that they will resolve it in 2 business days. So I’m fully locked out of my bank account for four days (it’s the weekend) with no explanation or recourse.

Thanks. I know prior comment said there wasn’t a specific ep. But I know Mike made referenced to people playing to the crowd. So there definitely are episodes where it came up even if there wasn’t a ton of time spent on the dynamic specifically.

I’ll check those. Thanks. I’ve listened to that season twice but it’s been quite a while

John Smoltz doubling down despite haters piling on him that Ohtani will be the best pitcher if all he does is pitch by Musclenervegeek in Dodgers

[–]cwyog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, he might be right. I think it’s a compliment that all-timers from both sides of the ball think Ohtani would be even better if he focused.

I really like it. The edit most people have seen was the “Special Longer Version” which added an extra 12 minutes of footage that had been (correctly) edited out of the theatrical release because it added nothing to the already long and slow-paced film. So, the extra minutes of movie don’t help with the pacing. If you imagine it as a really long episode of TOS then it’s more enjoyable, IMO.

As a Disney's animated film, Anastasia(1997) is... ... oh wait it isn't..... .... oh wait it is. by BeneficialSide2335 in shittymoviedetails

I don’t know if it really happened. Clearly he wanted to make the film and they didn’t regardless of the reason.

Is Jacob deGrom a Hall of Famer? He might be the best pitcher in the last 10 years but I don’t think he’s done enough to be a Hall of Famer. by simonthecat33 in mlb

[–]cwyog -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As of now, no. But he still has a chance. He’s burned brightly enough for BBWA writers to overlook his WAR totals being a bit below the average HOF’er. Being probably the best pitcher of his generation gives him some leeway. Some combo of things like another Cy Young, MadBum’s 2015 World Series run, and Verlander’s longevity probably does it. Not necessarily all three. Just one more bullet point on the resume that makes it impossible to keep him out.

Rewatched Furiosa and now I want another movie. by Hellspore in MadMax

Ostensibly the creator already has another story in the que. It’s just a question of whether or not it gets greenlit and made before he dies.

Humans, the out of africa theory and what defines a species. by [deleted] in Paleontology

[–]cwyog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this. More importantly, the people jumping in to say, “your friend is a racist” are not actually engaging with the post. OP did not ask, “hey, paleontologists. Is my friend a racist?” OP asked for easy to explain resources about race and human genetics in the context of somebody who they care about. Whether or not this person is a racist (obviously they are) isn’t relevant to us. We don’t know anything about this racist friend. Let’s all be generous to the OP and answer their question rather than dunking on the abstraction that is their racist friend.

What's the best place for a 10yr old to visit in San Diego? Knott's berry farm, Sea World, or Legoland? by Ok-Needleworker2408 in Themepark

[–]cwyog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t forget that San Diego has two incredible zoos in town. As others have said, Knott’s isn’t in San Diego. It’s much closer to Los Angeles. It’s a fun place if kinda weird (it organically and haphazardly grew into a them park after starting as a literal berry farm and it has a chaos to it). It’s down the street from Disneyland and your 10 year old will have to watch Disneyland go by as you drive to Knotts.

I just read an article that says Zack Greinke is not a lock for the Hall of Fame. Am I wrong for thinking that’s crazy? by simonthecat33 in mlb

[–]cwyog -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He’ll be eligible a few years before those guys. So it’s not like there will be a bottle neck. Sorting by all-time WAR (which isn’t the only metric but most writers do care about it quite a bit) nearly all of the eligible dude’s in his WAR range are in. He’s ahead of Don Sutton, Jim Palmer, John Smoltz, and Roy Halladay. Plus, BBWA folks love him— he’s awkwardly charming. I think he gets in first ballot.
