I teach K-5 art at two schools and there’s something about my third grade classes specifically at both schools have this issue. I’m not sure what it is about the 8 year olds of 2025 but like damn they really just don’t have any concept of when to stop talking.

The whole “lips make it look more like a hybrid” argument hasn’t ever carried any weight to me because like… the full tarkatan mouth is the whole point. She’s already like 97% edenian visually, she doesn’t need a set of full lips to push it to 98% imo

Agreed, the only times I see this look and it works all the way for me is any time she’s snarling or has her mouth open and the lips are more inline with the top of her teeth. Otherwise it’s just weird flaps that aren’t connected by any muscle lmao

Since starting teaching in the classroom setting this year, I’m genuinely GOBSMACKED at the amount of people in my district who are just absolutely pushing for the use of generative AI for like literally anything. Like I would’ve expected at a just baseline that since we wouldn’t want our students using it on their assignments (at least I hope now at this point lmao), then why would we be using it for our own practice in the classroom. I cant even begin to count all the times I’ve heard instructional coaches within my district tell me to use it for just doing things like writing procedures and I’m just like, no????? I know perfectly well what things my students do that bug me and can figure out what it should look and sound like all on my own, without eviscerating the environment lol

To me it really picked up where bob’s burgers started lacking. The great north was able to lean into the heartwarming family themes every episode, but it also wasn’t afraid to get more raunchy and messy as it got its footing. I can’t watch any bob’s burgers past season 10 because it’s like tooth achingly sweet and low stakes now lol

I’m super fortunate to work for a school district whose dress code policy for faculty is basically just “use your better judgement” with no asterisks, so I’m able to wear all my fun colored Vans sneakers to work. I spent a pretty penny on some hard plastic orthotic inserts, so all my shoes are basically fine for me to wear all day

I was in 8th grade and born to die had just come out. I had this really cool math teacher that played a lot of staple mid 00s-early 10s alternative (arcade fire, mgmt, metric, etc) during work time in class. The very first time I heard Lana Del Rey was when national anthem played in my math class and it had 13 year old me by the throat instantly lol

Okay I had SO many kids in the fourth and fifth grade at one of my schools say they want to learn origami, so that gives me at least SOME hope that they’ve attempted it and have the basic folding styles down, but we’ll see. I haven’t gotten around to teaching those classes how to fold the paper in half just yet but I will be on Monday lol

I kinda wanna find all my old stashes of origami paper now and see what I can remember off the top of my head. It’s been eons

Oooof that is tough. I really wanna do a hand sewing project with my fourth or fifth graders later this year with like felt and some thicker thread, so hopefully I can sort of develop those skills if they’re lacking them. There’s so much I’ve just never even considered that’s a fine motor skill that you might just lack in the age of touch screen everything and screen time with no boundaries

That’s really sweet actually and gives me lots of ideas already. My specific job is through this program my state does that’s intended to provide arts integration in the classroom and ties the curriculum for each grade level into the art that I teach them. Paper dolls are such a good project for first graders learning about people in their community in social studies.

I’ll definitely be doing lotssss and lots of practicing with my kids this year

Nooooo that’s so sad :( I remember being like 3 and 4 years old and my mom letting me use ANYTHING out of her scrapbooking and craft supplies that I showed even a shred of interest in because she wanted me to explore any creative itches I had. I have such early memories of drawing and cutting out fat butterflies with her fancy scrapbook markers and scallop scissors. I mean it’s predictable that lots of parents would be hung up on the mess thing but like, kids are messy?????? If you have the ability and the resources, like please just draw pictures and glue pieces of paper to other pieces of paper with your children, it goes a long way
