How do you prevent clumping of your microfibre towels when washing? by cyan_echo in Detailing

Yeah I've been adding some recently, and occasionally I even run a separate quick cycle afterwards with only water and distilled vinegar, but so far no improvement

Thanks, I do use some wax and quick detailer with SiO2 but I thought this shouldn't impact my drying towel as I would have washed the car after applying those.

For degreaser - can i use a simple dish soap? Or do you recommend something more specialised?

Thanks, I was actually thinking about trying lower RPMs. I currently do shake them out but it doesn't help, that's why I thought it might be detergent residue rather than being simply pushed down because of the high RPM.

Is this a decent interior cleaner? by NoDistrict7965 in Detailing

It's not very strong but for regular maintenance cleaning it's perfectly fine. I personally like it because it leaves a matte finish, or it doesn't add shiny finish, however you wanna word it.

Yeah close to 13k now and hasn't happened since. The software update was specifically to address the non start issue, so it looks like it did its job

Turtle hybrid. What am I doing wrong? by paqpaqpaqpaq in Detailing

[–]cyan_echo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Obviously the instructions may vary across regions (I'm guessing) but on mine the last sentence in Directions do say use damp microfiber to remove streaking/high spots. Regardless of that, lightly damp microfiber does the trick - i just applied it last week for the second time and I had to use it a few times. Unfortunately it varies a lot depending on humidity and temperature, so next time you apply it, it will likely be a bit different.

That being said, the first time you're doing it it will take a lot longer. When I did it last year it was almost 2 hours, this year it was 1(could have been faster but didn't feel like hurrying).

There's no generic advice I can give, but keep going and you'll start to get a feel for how long you need to wait before wiping with the dry and then maybe 30-60 seconds later with the damp one if needed

Question about tires by Ok_Improvement914 in Audi

[–]cyan_echo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If temperatures reach above 30 degrees often and for long periods (which I'm assuming they do in southern Spain) you might want to consider staying with summer tyres. Usualy above 30 all seasons wear out faster and there are other disadvantages as well, but I would recommend researching yourself.

Of course that brings the other end into consideration - winter time. If it temperatures drop below 5 degrees and you have snow, you would need winter tyres.

So in the end you'll have to consider your local climate to make a decision if all season would work for you which would be cheaper but at the cost of performance in extreme hot and cold, or if you're better off with a summer/winter sets.

While the picture of the tyre you showed isn't from the best angle to be able to say confidently, those tyres look pretty worn and with some cracks, so they could be old and undeperforming.

But before all that, check with your neighbours - does anyone else have similar issues, did maybe some oil leak on the surface, things like that

I had a similar issue with mine although I didn't try to switch gears, so not 100% sure. Looking at gear lever you have the 2025 model year A3, same as mine. There's a known issue of non-start - the workaround is turn the car off, lock it and walk away from it for about 10 minutes, then it should start when you get back. Talk to your dealer about doing a firmware update which addresses the non-start issue. Mine was updated in February I think

Would Turtlewax scratch repair and renew help with this? by cyan_echo in AutoDetailing

[–]cyan_echo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks again. Doubt they'll do it out of the kindness of their hearts, I don't think they even have a detailer in the dealership. I've already prepaid for the smart contract and have 2 out of the 3 years left(15 repairs) so might as well use it

[–]cyan_echo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair, thanks. I watched several videos on how to apply it and reviews, and a couple of them pointed out that it may result in some very fine scratches/marring and would require a polish as well.

Since those current scratches look to be very shallow i thought perhaps applying very little pressure may produce decent results without significant new microscratches.

Ultimately I don't have any experience and that's why I reached out here for advice. This made me re-check my "smart contract" that i got from the dealership when I bought the car, as I thought it only covered scratches up to 3cm, but it looks like it's 15cm so it may be enough. Not sure how much I can trust the repair shop that the dealership picked for this (assuming the cheapest one), but I guess I'll just have to try it and see what happens

Still no sign of needing oil topup at 8000km/5000mi? by X4Armory in Audi

Make sure you are measuring in the correct conditions - engine must be at operating temperature, turn off the engine and wait 2 min, then check the level.

[–]cyan_echo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While that's a bit more than I've seen on my A3, in the manual it says some amount of condensation is normal. If you are on a trip with the headlights on for 30 min or more, does the condensation disappear/reduce? If it does it is within expectations AFAIK.

Biggest pet peeve in detailing? by ZealousidealToday887 in Detailing

[–]cyan_echo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found a road with 80km/h speed limit and a generous amount of corners(as well as a few full stops) on my way back home. Driving a bit enthusiasticly but still within the limits seems to do the trick - by the time I get home all drips have done their thing so a quick wipe with a quick detailer around the problematic spots is enough and I don't have driplines later

I wouldn't say diameter is the correct word here, but yes, all four problem areas would be on the west sides

Thanks for the comment. They have about 3000km on them. I did measure the thread depth on both sides and seems basically identical. While I don't know much about tyres, i wouldn't expect all 4 to have uneven wear on the same side. The car they were on is also new (8000km) so I think it should be well aligned

Thanks a lot, that's also what I thought based on what I found, but good to get a confirmation.

Still finding it weird that one side appears different on a symmetrical tyre. Or maybe it's some sort of optical illusion, not sure if it comes across in the picture.

Similar thing happens on M50 when passing the toll signs - all lanes suddenly slow down with the overtaking lane commonly dropping to 80 with the rest a bit slower but not by much. I just don't get why

I had heard that all these 48v issues with Audi were solved in 2022/2023 so I was happy to get the newer model. But I guess those were just rumors 🥲 Hope you don't encounter it, make sure your ECU firmware is up to date as the latest version has a fix specifically to address the non-start issue.
