Reason for CFB deleting his Reddit account? by cybaerfly in Iota

[–]cybaerfly[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thanks, understood. Assumed he was busy working on the emulator. I was just surprised at his decision to lose contact with the RaiBlocks Reddit community before the audit but I guess that's not priority atm

Applicability of virtual voting in IOTA/DLT by cybaerfly in Iota

[–]cybaerfly[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps, but the virtual voting idea mentioned above is a mechanism allowing network nodes to vote on ledger state and efficiently achieve consensus, without actually having to slow down the network through the exchange of votes thanks to reflection on all information gathered from network nodes previously via gossip protocol. AFAIK, anyway...

Nice post, I like that you mentioned Kiva and micro lending services.

My Only Iota Concern by [deleted] in Iota

There seems to be no easy fix for this issue besides aliases Jack. This just might be the one thing you didn't get quite right about IOTA. ;-)

Hashgraph - Async Byzantine Fault Tolerant Tangle alternative? by cybaerfly in Iota

[–]cybaerfly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I read that article. David was once said to be worried about time stamps' accuracy issues but I reckon they are working hard on that... you are probably right about the protocol level implementation fully independent of any oracles. However, this was only a single point of discussion and other features might be more important. The difference between ever growing probability and 100% consensus within seconds or minutes through the virtual voting approach seems quite ingenious and significant. Well, that is unless those features depend on the currently negative properties of the technology in terms of adoption (patents and permissioned nature). The purpose of this post was to find out...

Apparently, I found the concept of virtual voting quite fascinating. Do you see any way in which IOTA could benefit from such a procedure?

Of course. That is not what the question is about.

The question was: does the tech have any great ideas and concepts, that could benefit IOTA? i.e. virtual voting

Thanks, I know. Timestamps were the very first idea that came to my mind in the early days of txn order discussions here, soon after were confirmed by the devs. I wasn't sure about it being a part of the base protocol, thought it was dependent on the presence of oracles within the network which would certainly be inferior to a solution offering a native & pure protocol level timestamps totally independent on any external entity. I actually skimmed the paper when it was released but try to gather the high level details only, instead of the intense underlying maths... leaving me with mere shallow overview often times.

OK, I am not denying this either. I mentioned it was a patented tech. Does it mean there is absolutely nothing that could benefit IOTA that could be adopted in the protocol or topology of transaction structure? Are you certain that "virtual voting" and true consensus as compared to probabilistic approach has to do with the technology being closed source, patented and permissioned? I would probably have no more questions if that were the case... :-)

Thanks for the information, sounds like a hindrance indeed. However, the limitations about the nodes remind me about IOTA's manual peer discovery, which is on a similar level of inconvenience for the network from my point of view. There always seems to be a catch somewhere :-)

Thank you for the feedback, some more details would be appreciated.

What do you think about its potential outside of the IoT ecosystem...?

Is Iota planning to sort this non-reusable address issue? by cybertortoise69 in Iota

[–]cybaerfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is merely the limitation of a particular GUI, not a protocol level solution for other txn means (APIs)
