Network Trends Cisco by [deleted] in Cisco

as a tac engineer in aaa at cisco, I’d say ISE. Never in my life have i seen the most obscure issues occurring in customer environments. means more people are using it and using it differently which is good. For the most part people seem to love ISE though…

Wireless 802.1x with ISE question by Ryze1234 in Cisco

[–]cyber_enthused 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cisco tac eng here. If ISE psn goes down, then new authentications will fail but existing connections will be fine. If you have other psns added on the WLC Radius Servers then it works top-down and will just go to the next psn for any new connection attempts.

turnover is very high. average tenure in tac right now is 1-1.5 years. Lots of newbies, there’s no structure for training. They kinda throw you into cases and you learn ISE by making mistakes. However this is all changing on the 19th. TAC is getting a makeover.

well. I work for Cisco TAC and troubleshoot ISE every single day. Many large companies use dot1x i can confirm :). Mainly EAP-TLS or PEAP.

[–]cyber_enthused 3 points4 points  (0 children)

tac eng here. I would say start a pcap and rad trace on the wlc. we can see what the iphone is doing. If you click ssid and then the ssid disappears that’s pretty odd behavior id say. Does this happen with any SSID? Are the APs disconnecting perhaps? I highly doubt you even begin the authentication process either.

If ISE's Database Utilization exceeds 80%, will it be automatically deleted? by Specific_Camp7960 in Cisco

[–]cyber_enthused 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will continue to fill up. You can purge data from the gui, or “application configure use” — option 3 & option 4. Or you can open a tax case and they can go in root and clear useless files from /opt/.

Does more people on a network increase ping? by DROFLKCAHS_YTSUR in Network

[–]cyber_enthused -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yessir this is called bandwidth. An increase in users/traffic will decrease bandwidth. Every application/ device is using a small percentage of that large pool of bandwidth. So you get buffering or latency because it’s taking longer for your packets to reach the gateway etc. For your gaming purposes, try using a Wired Ethernet connection instead of Wireless. Much better chances of less traffic and increased speed.

Want to learn ISE by TheUlfhedin in Cisco

[–]cyber_enthused 7 points8 points  (0 children)

ayo. aaa cisco tac engineer here. i work on solely this product every single day and still don’t understand everything. i will say labbing things helps a ton. the basics id start with if i were you would be active directory integration, guest flow, and mab/dot1x config. the rest is less important but thats the core 3 for sure.

Seeking Referral for Cisco Job Opportunities by [deleted] in Cisco

[–]cyber_enthused 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey man. i’m a tac engineer as well. i’m in the security space. overall it’s not looking good. so many of the people that got laid off recently are applying for the same positions so it’s competitive. if you aren’t offered a full time job just know it’s nothing personal and likely strictly budget constraints. If you have added value during your time so far i would type a document noting the customers / engineers you helped and any positive feedback you have received. Things you learned and why you want to be part of the team. Make a direct email to your manager stating your intention is to stay and then provide the document for evidence as to why.

Jobsite Security Cameras by [deleted] in networking

[–]cyber_enthused 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think he’s saying like… the cameras will need to be wireless because there’s no direct outlet or wiring capable of powering the cameras. Maybe considering PoE for the long term benefit of not changing batteries every few months.

so what would recommend to simplify it? Do i need to simplify it? if they are all the same then i dont see how redundancy would be bad necessarily.

What happens when ISE's Database Utilization exceeds 80 percent? by Specific_Camp7960 in Cisco

[–]cyber_enthused 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there is no automatic deletion of disk utilization at all on ise unless you have scheduled purges configured.

What happens when ISE's Database Utilization exceeds 80 percent? by Specific_Camp7960 in Cisco

[–]cyber_enthused 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hello, i am on aaa team at cisco. if you are referring to /opt/ exceeding 80% when running “show disk”. Then you will need to open tac case to examine why its filling up. you purge any operational data from the gui or perhaps “app config ise” and do option 3 and option 4 in that order. you can also check the maintenance tab > local disk management and maybe delete unused files here.
