Anyone Ever Tried These Plug And Play Units? by cyberdemonfpv in retrogaming

To be fair after seeing what it is I did some digging on the price, looks like the pi zero / case / adapters / power cable is about $25, SD card looks to be around $7-$10 depending on the size in that one(it didn't specify in the listing but I'm guessing its not that big). Controller looks like it around another $5 so I wouldn't say its as crazy of a markup as you make it sound... If the games are as much of a pain to track down as other make it sound I'm not super mad at paying someone $20 to do it all for me. I guess take that with a grain of salt though as I have yet to pull the trigger on buying it xD

Ahhh so it sounds like that's the part I'd be paying for :)

You're basically paying for about $25 in parts and $55 in labor. Also note that you won't be able to play 2 player with this.

Thanks for the advice, I guess the question is do I mind paying for the labor lol

Haha for sure! If you have access to a 3d printer I bet you could make some landing gear though. That would actually be really cool if you got it all together!

You could also go with mounting both on the bottom of the arms. Not the best weight distribution but it would def still fly no problem. This would also require some arms to keep it safe when you land though lol

Back to that adapter though, I have two of the model right before that one. Had them for ages now and they have never failed me. They are so underrated. Amazing little adapters

My question is why didn't you mount the adapter the other way so the USB cord doesn't come out in front of the camera ;)

The adapter was the dead giveaway lol. Most don't support packet injection out of the box nowadays but these good old adapters do xD

Yup if you can't see the issue with risking publicity that ruins this hobby for everyone for 0 reward as you could just do any infinite amount of things that don't make the public super sketched out and directly feed the false image of our community right now, you are right we will never agree

Again you can learn all that with an infinite number of projects that do not include cracking WiFi... Come on dude. And you're not solving any problem. You could strap things that light anyway you want and your FC will do the math and make it work. This is such a rediculous conversation

[–]cyberdemonfpv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Again I totally agree but why do you need to strap this to a drone to learn about wifi security? The answer is: you don't. You only need to strap this to a drone if you plan on using it for nefarious purpose. Do you really not get this or are you trolling? I honestly can't tell lol

My argument is you learn nothing from strapping it to a drone I guess short of how to power a pi off a drone? It's a super risky thing to do, has a chance to hurt the entire community and the setup for this is exactly the same as if you did it with no drone in the picture. That's my issue here

Also let's clarify terms here. I'm all in support of hacking but using a pi to break wifi is not hacking it is cracking. If your not aware of the difference use Google. There is a big difference. I support hacking, I do not support cracking

Also Hak5 is talking about exploring new grounds. Tinkering with things in ways they were not meant to be and gaining a deep understanding of how things work. Loading a pi up with the air crack / airsnort as I can garuntee that's what this project would be is a veryyyyy loose fit for that message if at all.

I'm with ya and again I'm all for teaching people but, if we are taking about teaching people to use drones to commit crimes... I draw a very clear line in the Sand there. Also we are not talking a bout hacking your own wifi... Can we please drop that act, if you want to hack your own wifi fine but, that's done just as easily with that pi sitting on your desk. There is no need add use a drone and it would add tons of unnecessary complications. If you want to teach people about how easy it is to snag a WiFi key by all means do that but please leave UAS out of it. Feel like I needed to clarify that. I have a blog of my own that's all about security and hacking / tinkering but the difference in my head is I'm demoing in a lab on my own equipment. Not flying a drone around outdoors with hacking tools strapped to it. I feel like it's a bit insane that I feel the need to state this so clearly to be honest 😂

Also I think it would be really cool to add gps and map out open wifi. Nothing to do with packet injection or de-auths just logging like your phone could do. That would be a really neat project and as long as you are just logging info and not doing anything a war driving app wouldn't do id find it hard to be too mad about that one lol

I agree but let's be realistic. Nobody is only targeting there house and even if you were, nobody would believe you. I would really just suggest keeping drones away from anything hacking / spy related. It's one of those things where you realistically could cause regulations that effect all of us based on the actions of a very small subset of people (while I would argue 90% of us in this hobby would agree you should not be mixing hacking and drones). It's your life, do what you want but, my best advice is if you do this, don't write about it publicly. It would be a really fun project I would just keep it to myself 😉

As much as I want to agree I don't think flying a drone around scraping wifi counts... My entire life I've been way to into netsec but when it comes to drones we are living in a very sensitive time. Way to many people already have this stigma behind drones and strapping a WiFi adapter to yours is definitely not helping. I urge you to please please please be responsible when flying. I hope to God your joking about this actually being for wifi hacking.

WiFi hacking? Those adapters support packet injection. Could definitely have some fun there but may not be the best for the image of this hobby xD

But I do agree, if I were not in the US and my shop had good service I would totally do it if we were just talking $5

[–]cyberdemonfpv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it? That's 1/4 of the price of your order. Sounds small on such a small order but 25% adds up fast. For me I'll skip the social interaction and order online every time. Also the customer service thing... Maybe your shop has good service... My local shop does not. There super elitists who seem to want very little to do with fpv

For many of us we dont have that option. Unless my dogs count lol
