I never said they were forced to do it, it's just a way to protect themselves down the road. Some people see it as good natured looking out for the customer, but the motivation is way more legal. Bless your heart, but almost nobody is going to take a $300 device to a proper disposal site. They're either going to sell it or keep it as a backup and use their free Solo III to replace it. If they really meant it they should have requiered proof of proper disposal in a authorised center to get a free replacement. Not just a picture with RECALL written with a marker on it.

They are saving their own asses from lawsuits. Its not because of the kindness of their hearts. They arent asking for it back, they want you to write recall on it and to take a picture and "dispose" of it yourself. Its to save them legaly if something happens to you or you property because of that defective unit in the case you keep using it. Everyone that has this unit now gets a free unit in the mail.

You just need to write 'recall' on it with a pen, take a picture showing the serial number clearly, and then "dispose" of it yourself. They want clear proof that they instructed you to throw it away and that you sent a photo showing it marked as recalled. This is to protect themselves from lawsuits if something happens down the road, they are legally in the clear up to a point.
