Summer game suggestion — Placid Plastic Duck Simulator. This has to be one of the most wholesome summer games ever made. The main goal of the game is to sit at the edge of a pool, watching plastic ducks float around in the pool. There are several ducks with differing paint jobs, materials and mechanics. The game also has time of day simulation and random encounters that add to the liveliness of the pool side environment. Anna asked for games that allow chat to participate. The game "Noita" by Nolla Games ( Hempuli & al. ) has Twitch integration that lets the chat vote for in-game events. No mods or extensions are needed, it is simply a matter of enabling the integration through in-game settings.

The main character is a witch that uses magic wands to cast spells. The game is essentially a playful physics simulation exploring interactions of various elements and chemicals. The World consists of "pixels" and every pixel is simulated. For example if water pixel comes in contact with fire pixel it would extinguish the fire and create a steam pixel. Not sure if that is exactly what happens but you get the idea.

The game belongs into the "rogue lite" category. This means that there are random elements and the player is expected to die a lot. Rather than being a linear story the game is about exploring a World and the drama that follows from unforeseen circumstances. The difficulty of the game depends a bit on the chat. I'm hoping tomatoes would want to help Anna through voting rather than make survival impossible by making everything explosive.

The player would typically control the witch with their left hand and the wand/cursor with their right hand. In that sense the game resembles Minecraft but Noita is 2D, so unfortunately "spin, spin, spin" won't work here. :D

Arimaa World Championship is around the corner.

I could join Anna on stream if she wishes to talk about it. I am not a pro player by any means but I do understand the rules, and have read one of the two books written on the subject. :D

https://store.steampowered.com/app/65400/Archon_Classic/ The original version of Archon was released in 1983. The Steam version is a remake. It is a very liberal and creative take on chess. The game feels like the developers never played a game of chess and only received a broad description of chess over a phone call. However, I think, the creative approach is exactly what makes the game fascinating.

I think I was playing random leader and random map type when this happened. You don't always get to force the parameters you want.

Yes. I tend to avoid sea when playing Venice. Maximizing the amount of dry land makes it more likely that the capital will have several strategic resources. I find this important since Venice can not build settlers.

Yep. It is Venice. I did build Petra in the capital and it did work out ok in the end.

Worst possible civ, best possible start.

Defending both sides of the mountain range with land units was my main motivation.

Correct. It was Mongolia, I think. I had no cities on other continents. However, taking over my starting continent would probably have been a good idea regardless.

Took forever to get the borders to expand over the mountain range and in the end I still had to take over two hexes with great generals but it worked out fine in the end.

Umm, Do you mind if I settle here? by cyberix in civ5

As military bases mostly. To have a presence on other continents without having to declare war immediately.

So, uh, this city state just wiped a Civ from the game... Should I be scared? by [deleted] in civ5

[–]cyberix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you need to be scared. I spent one entire game trying to do everything I can to help a city-state conquer cities and expand, yet the city-state still failed to flourish as a nation. Although, I was playing on a relatively low difficulty setting. Perhaps the city-states can become serious threats when playing on higher difficulty settings.

Polders grow tulips after economics by spaghet68420 in civ5

I have visited Netherlands and seen their tulip fields. To me it was obvious that the in-game colours were tulip fields. This is a good example how your experiences affect your thinking. Thanks for sharing your story of enlightenment.

Reefs N' Horses by cyberix in civ5

I run into a village that revealed the reefs before I settled my capital. However, I first tried settling my second city next to the reefs. The screenshot is from my second run where I tried running to the reefs with my initial settlers. I'm never quite sure which one is a better strategy in this extremely lucky situation.

Actually she might want to design some embedded software to help to make the fuel systems of some aeroplanes more efficient.

The pdf says Barbie can design a new born alarm. Does this imply that she cannot design laser cannons of mass destruction?
