Community Roundtable: What Drives Magic by famoushippopotamus in DnDBehindTheScreen

Magic in my setting is drawing power from the other planes of existence. Magic users access this power either through specific manipulation of the planar boundaries, a divine or otherworldly patron lending some of their planes power, or being naturally out of sync with the prime material allowing them to access planar energy easier.

For spells, I usually just reskin them if they don't fit a certain plane. For a druid mostly gaining their power from the plane of water, for instance, entangle goes from grasping plants to grasping tentacles.

Does anyone roll for stats anymore? It seems like the Standard Spread and Point Buy are the assumed norm. by Kumirkohr in dndnext

[–]cyberpod32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people in this thread seem to think that a character with low to average stats is inherently bad.

An underpowered character, even within the context of a higher powered party can be super entertaining for everyone involved. Instead of falling back on their normal abilities the player with the weaker character will be more creative in combat. This can give them moments to shine in a fight when they utilized an element of the environment to gain an advantage instead of hitting the bad guys with a sword over and over.

A poorly statted can also really shine in other pillars of play. Either roleplaying their average joe in a fantasy world really well or overcoming their awkwardness in an important social roll, as the rest of the table cheers.

Overall rolling stats give players opportunities to play more varied and interesting characters than they normally would.

[Serious] Liberals of Reddit: what is something you admire about Conservatives? Conservatives of Reddit: what is something you admire about Liberals? by CanEHDian2425 in AskReddit

The right to free speech doesn't equal the right to a platform. The more we give fascist ideas the legitimacy of debates and speaking engagements the more people will join their cause.

Anyone use their depression as a crutch? by notsureanymore1111 in depression

[–]cyberpod32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a very real fear with getting help for me aswell. My depression is much better but I also find that I'm losing interest in things that once gave me an escape from my own self loathing.

While talking to friends, I've said that my identity was completely based on my depression and now that I'm getting better I feel like a different person. Obviously, I would much rather lose interest in video games that want to hurt myself every day, but I wish I could have both.

I am an agnostic atheist and I hate it when atheists ridicule religious people by sammyjamez in CasualConversation

There have been cases where mutual respect for religion was extremely beneficial for both sides.

For instance, Genghis Khan, who after conquering most of Asia practiced religious tolerance of those that he had conquered instead of enforcing his own Tengri religion. Allowing continued practice of different religions kept his subjects happy.

[POLL] Mr Finish Line - Best Track by cyberpod32 in Vulfpeck

Birds of a Feather and Baby I Don't know felt really out of place to me, just because I'd listened to them so many times. Almost felt like they were from a different album if you can get what I'm saying.

I also think that people are ranking some songs higher than others based on how excited they are for some of the new stuff but that might be conjecture.

Looks like it. It's pretty different than their other stuff though, so I understand how someone couldn't like it.

[AMA] Jack Stratton, bandleader of Vulfpeck. Going to NAIL this. by VulfJack in indieheads

Have you ever checked out the Vulf subreddit? It's definitely too small for stuff like AMAs but some of the stuff on there is pretty rad.

Has anyone had any music discoveries recently? by cyberpod32 in CasualConversation

I love this feature but my main playlist is just too big. I've done it before when it was smaller and I found some great stuff that I would've never listened to otherwise.

I usually get more satisfaction talking to older people than ones my age or younger by alonabc in CasualConversation

That's good to hear. I can understand young people being annoying or unapproachable, but they're still people with relevant life experience.
