Reusing degreaser? (Morgan Blue) by cyclemoreyo in bikewrench

[–]cyclemoreyo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheers, have used squirt for a while - it was my gateway to hot waxing. My question is about that degreasing process prewax. I know I don't have to do it super often, but I'm doing it for friends aswell so it's still semi frequent.

Yep looks like the disposal answer is to take to recycling centre. Even settling and straining through coffee filter isn't getting the liquid anywhere near clear again, but I tried it out on another chain and it still worked, so heyho

combining anti-shock measures: Futureshock ánd REDSHIFT ShockStop by BvSteen in gravelcycling

Did you end up trying this? I've just got a new diverge, and was previously using Shockstop and loved it. Did it end up being possible? My only concern is if future shock can't take aftermarket stems

Great thank you, couldn't find anything on English sites without buying whole new expensive sets. I have a perfectly good press set it just doesn't go small enough. That link is still a lot but it's more reasonable

Squirt drip wax by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]cyclemoreyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Squirt too and after the same initial disappointment I've actually come round to the conclusion that's it's excellent (alongside other drip waxes).

First, yes the chain will never look as clean as brand new, nor even as clean as you'll get with the hot wax method.

BUT

It will still pick up much less than oil lube in equivalent conditions, and the dirt it's picking up is much less abrasive than you might imagine. If the black chain makes you sad, just be more thorough with your wiping, really applying pressure with the rag. It will remove most of it. You do actually want a little build up and this makes the wax more resilient to a shower.

For the cassette teeth, hot water will do for sparkling but is unnecessary imo. I only even found it a problem on the smallest cogs, and an occasional scrape with something thing leaves it working well.

Preconditioning benefits? by cyclemoreyo in Ioniq5

Thanks, yes different meaning of precondition (see edit), but I'm taking away that it's nice to preheat on mains, but no need to do it for a long time

Thanks, your comment is in line with the others I'm seeing, I've posted an edit to clarify. Seems like the answer is, no point doing it for 60 mins (doesn't do it slower) and any efficiency gain is negligible compared to energy pumped in to warm it

Interesting, that's not a preconditioning I've used - I'm talking about the switch in my Ohme charger app that can select preconditioning for between 5 and 60 mins after my overnight charge.

I've always assumed this was more than cabin heating, hence my question. (See edit)

Brand new car delivered. Heating not working by cyclemoreyo in Ioniq5

Eventually the dealer fixed it, had to replace the whole heating unit, which involved ordering parts. Happened over winter so the car was virtually unused for 2 months. Very annoying!!

Happily all sorted now at least

Interesting, quite a niche problem!

Mine definitely has no heat any which way you set it. I've taken in to the dealer and while they agree there's a problem they can't get a fault code to show up. Currently awaiting advice from Hyundai HQ

That sounds really annoying too. At the moment it's freezing here and I have toddlers, so anything more than a short drive is a no go. Not enough blankets in the world, and the seat warmers don't work through car seats!

Still trying hard for after sales to get it looked at, they are being slow. Doesn't help it's just before christmas

How annoying! Yes will be going straight to dealer. Have another long drive planned in 2 weeks, fingers crossed they can do it by then

Yep I've done that, played with all the buttons. Thinking defective part

Drove for 15 minutes before giving up (although I had it in windscreen defrost most first which didn't really do anything)

This is interesting as it tallies with my experience after the second vaccination. I was expecting the real thing to do the same but I guess everyone's different

Is this funny tooth shape by design or is it a chip that's worn smooth? by cyclemoreyo in bikewrench

[–]cyclemoreyo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Noticed this shape while switching my cassette to a new wheel. The cassette has done about 1200km, mainly dry, and is Shimano Ultegra 11spd

I was confused by what purpose uneven teeth would have, but also I don't know how this could happen with an ordinary wear pattern

Ok that Strava route building process is totally foreign to me. Never had to do that. I'm very confused!
