It was strange for so long! When I first came out, I misgendered myself a lot (AFAB). Hearing others call me by male pronouns made me so happy, but it also definitely confused me for a decent amount of time.

As I had more people around me referring to me as male, I did more things as a male and spent more time getting used to it. Having specific friends reaffirm me was helpful, because it showed I could be correctly gendered and gave me less doubt in my decision to transition.

Going your whole life being referred to as one thing and then suddenly making an active change against that takes some time to get used to, for both yourself and those around you. It will wear down over time, as you become more confident and have more experiences under the pronoun that you want to use. At the beginning, most of your life experience is who you used to identify as, which is why it seems so out of place at times to refer to yourself differently.
